Table Talk

BY Mike S Apostol

Go out and vote today for the candidates you think is the best and who can do the job of a trouble shooter. One who can fix the country’s woes that have brought misery to our lives. Go for the candidates that can tell the truth about our situation and not those who can paint a picture that our country is paradise and its people happy and contented amidst the backdrop of hunger, poverty and unstoppable corruption in all levels of government. Go for those candidates who are brave enough to tell the people that they cannot do it alone, but seek help from the people. Go for the candidates who can pick up the pieces and start a new beginning, instead of those candidates who have a blind eye to the hardship of the people but continue to boast of charity that favors a few who are close to them. Go for the candidates who can show you how to produce your food and live throughout your remaining days and not those who feed you only for a day. Go for the candidate who can give you his charity from the heart and not those who give you charity stolen from other people’s toil. Go for those candidates who can show the difference between right and wrong and not those candidates who feel that the difference is always the same. Find those candidates because there are still some good men left for us to choose and vote for them and tomorrow, the Philippines and Zamboanga City will have a new day.

After the elections and winners will be known, a new future and hope await the Filipino people. To those who sacrificed their lives for their candidates to win, expect, with a goodwill that not all of those who gave their time and labor will be remembered and rewarded. But, your greatest consolation is that you have helped in the shaping of a new Philippines. This is one contribution that money cannot buy, because you have helped in directing the course of our children’s future and that is more than enough to be contented with your life and sleep peacefully. All of us have a role to play in our lives and we cannot change God’s work because God promised that there is always a time for everything, so be contented and wait for that time.

Vote for the good candidates not for yourself, but for your children, country and the people. Our future is at stake and only your vote can assure us of a future that can fulfill all God’s promises. If our government committed mistakes that caused us hardships and sufferings, let our votes be the vehicle to correct them for the better and not correct those government’s mistakes with another mistake. Vote for the right choice so there will be no regrets afterwards.

As a wise voter, never think that this election will once and for all end our miseries and problems. That those candidates you have chosen to vote for, are the answers to our nagging problems. It is the people’s vigilance and cooperation to our government and their officials, that is the answer and solution. Let us not be quick to blame government, but rather ask ourselves, what we can do and help. Let not the people think like mendicants and follow the saying that “beggars don’t choose”. We know what we want and government and its officials are there to assist us,  but cannot give everything.  If we need government’s help,  government can only help the people if, “the people help themselves first”.

By helping ourselves, first, we must not allow obstructionist to frustrate the people by rigging today’s election. Voters must object any untoward development  that may change the results of election. Let the people’s will, go to its right course without any hitch. Rumors of cheating in today’s election must be rebuked by the people because our Right of Suffrage will be infringed by hoodlums. People must not allow their free choice to vote for a candidate be dictated upon by crooks. Anything wrong a voter will notice and observe today must be reported to authorities and not keep them upon themselves. Without complaining this election, a voters right to a free choice is an estoppel. In this instance, a crime that favors the crooks.
