Table Talk

BY Mike S Apostol

Just after election, it’s nice to talk about how a candidate feel rather what they can do after an election. To the brighter side of life to make it lighter and easier, let us analyze.

The winners are the happiest people today or maybe for a week or so. After that comes the sad part. People will flock to their homes. Some to congratulate, others to seek help, for a job, contribution for medicine, medical needs for their sick and recommendation. Whatever it is, they need it before going home, it is pressure and a tense moment for a winning candidate

The losers, it is very sad. Except for a few real friends, they are left alone in their homes, licking their wounds like a wolf after a fight. They are alone, thinking of their campaign expenses, or unpaid obligations or thinking how they were cheated or angrily reminding themselves how they were fooled by a group, who promised to deliver votes after receiving his or her hard earned money.

The winners after a month in office, will now feel the pressure of victory. How to evade those nuisance visitors or debt collectors. What to do with an abusive office employee and driver, who came from you campaign group and pampered during the campaign and cannot just accept that you are now the boss, not the candidate. How to refuse invitations for parties from your supporters who expect that you will foot part of the bill. Worst, how to evade a daily visitor in your office, who comes for a free meal and expect to have something from you when he goes home.

The losers by now feel the pain of losing. He has  now a few remaining true friends and very rarely invited in parties except his true friends. In a gathering, a loser’s idea is not given a serious attention and thought. A loser loses even his loyal followers. Worst, even the most lowly of his group can now afford to show resentment in his wishes.

The sweetest thing in being a winner, is you are always an important member in a group. Your advices and ideas are sought for by many. Your only problem is how to maintain your status in the community.

The best thing in being a loser is, you will know who are your true friends. You will be cautious in your dealings and moves. You will be matured and seasoned and will not anymore be fooled into believing anybody but only your true friends. You have no worry about friendship because what you have, are the best in the community. You will be able to identify between the chaff from the grain in the group.

Scoop-”Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose”. This is a gambler’s belief. But it is always best to experience both, you will appreciate and love life better. Gamblers are always happy even if they lose in a game. Agree or disagree.
