Many are confused as to the difference between a travel agency and ticketing agency. I have to make things clear,  for us to be guided most especially our travellers.

Travel agencies, apart from selling and issuing airline tickets or other means of transportation, sell and execute tours be it  in-bound or out-bound.

In-bound tours  are tours that happen where the travel agency is located (strictly speaking ) while out-bound tours are definitely directed towards other places  it can be  within the country or abroad.

Ticketing Agencies ONLY sell travel transportation tickets, NADA MAS !  They  cannot sell tour packages or even execute tours, because they do not have the license and expertise to do so.

In Zamboanga City, we have four licensed travel agencies  — Adam’s express travel corporation,  Great Vacations Travel and Tours ,  Royal Achievers Travel Services and Air SavingsTravel and Tours. There are 76 ticketing agencies and one tour management company .

Most people think that ticketing agencies are similar to travel agencies .  HENDE DOYZ, NO NO NO. First The discrepancy lies on the business name approved by the Dept of Trade and Industry, thus it is being misunderstood by the public.

I have to make this clarification because some people had been victimized by unscrupulous ticketing agencies who are  selling and implementing tours, which is totally unacceptable.

For one, they do not have the proper trainings to do such and their line of business is strictly  for selling tickets for travel  transportation. Worse scenario, even transport operators are selling and executing tours, mama mia,  na unsa ka?

I hope this will serve as a warning to our residents in the city. Do let us know of any COLORUM outfit who sells  tour packages without the proper permit. We need to protect the clientele on this matter.

Even if you go to other places, be it within the country or abroad, it’s best for you to visit the Tourism Office and get hold of the list for you to be guided in choosing the right agency for your tour. In the Philippines, it’s best to deal with DOT accredited ones. — Email  me at sebastian.sarita@gmail.com
