KAKAMPI MO ANG BATAS

BY Atty. BATAS MAURICIO

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…the King will say, whatsoever you did to the least of my brothers and sisters, that you did to me…” (Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, in Matthew 25:40, the Holy Bible).

BLESSINGS FLOW FROM FELLOWSHIPS WITH JAPANESE ROTARIANS, II: Here is the final part of the article written by my wife, former Judge Angelina Domingo Mauricio, in her capacity as the incoming All Star President of the Rotary Club of Intramuros, Manila, of Rotary International’s District 3810: “This friendship and sister-club agreement (between the Rotary Club of Intramuros Manila and the Rotary Club of Kishiwada East Japan) are now poised to take service above self on a higher plane.

“(This is particularly true in the area) of helping impoverished Filipino children attain education, with their self-less cooperation in putting up several classrooms in far-flung areas, especially in the localities that were severely damaged by the angry waters brought by Typhoon Haiyan, or Typhoon Yolanda, reputed to be the strongest typhoon that ever hit the world in the last 100 years.

“During the conclusion of our Club’s visit through yet another sumptuous and hearty dinner on June 05, 2016, an agreement was reached for the building of these classrooms in two years’ time, with the spade work, so to speak, for this project being undertaken during my term as All Star President.

KISHIWADA, OSAKA ROTARIANS TO PUT CLASSROOMS FOR HAIYAN HIT AREAS: “Indeed, there are Rotary projects, and there are Rotary projects! But a Rotary project, undertaken by Rotarians separated by thousands of miles of lands and seas, that aims to provide classrooms to Filipino school children who are even now forced to learn reading, writing and arithmetic under the trees, or under collapsed structures of what once were their schools, is not just proof of `Rotary Serving Humanity’.

“It is serving our fellow human beings as Jesus, our God and Savior, had commanded us, Christians and believers of other faiths alike, to do with fervor and much sincerity. I am now furiously praying to God that this project will truly push through!

NAGASAKI ROTARIANS PROMISE MORE PROJECTS: “But this Japan visit would not be complete without the earlier sojourn that I did with the Rotary Club of Nagasaki North, District 2740, Japan. I decided to visit Nagasaki, and our sister-club as well, the Rotary Club of Nagasaki North, since I was already in Japan anyway.

“Equally, this Nagasaki visit and rendezvous with the Rotarians of Nagasaki North yielded significant benefits for the cause of “service above self” and Rotary being a `gift to the world’, and for purposes of inculcating in the minds of everyone that there is not only fellowship and good camaraderie among Rotarians, but that first and foremost, the objective is always to show `Rotary Serving Humanity’.

“Why am I saying this? Simply because of this: although I aimed to meet only with some select friends from Nagasaki North, I got an added bonus. During the farewell fellowship-karaoke singing that was tendered for me, the governor-elect of District 2740, Governor-Elect Tuyoshi Sakinaga, and his lovely wife, Mrs. Sakinaga, met me.

“Gov. Sakinaga and his wife tendered a dinner for me some six or seven years or so earlier, during my first visit to Nagasaki and to their Club. Sakinaga is a long-standing member of the Rotary Club of Nagasaki North… So, what else can someone like, raring to start my term as All Star President for Rotary Year 2016-2017, ask for? Nothing else, really, except God’s blessings, guidance, and protection, for me and my Club and the District I belong to…” Mabuhay and Banzai!!!
