LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another…” (1 Peter 4:10, the Holy Bible).

MAGIC AND SPLENDOR IN ROTARY DISTRICT 3810’S TURN-OVER OF POWER: There is always something magical and splendid about transfers of power and induction ceremonies among Rotarians from Rotary International, the organization of choice in the world when it comes to charity work and providing “service above self” to the poor and the needy, as the handover and induction ceremonies of District 3810 on July 01, 2016 at the Marriott Hotel in Pasay City showed.

In reality, the changing of club presidents and district governors as a new Rotary year begins every July 01 of every year symbolizes not just the installation of new officers and leaders for Rotary in glitzy and glittering and dazzling ceremonies complete with gowns and tuxedos, and sumptuous food and overflowing good drinks.

With the way District 3810 conducted its handover on July 01, 2016, it is more of feting those who selflessly and truthfully served for the Rotary year  that just passed and recognizing their happy and truly worthy sacrifices for others, and of reaffirming the commitment of incoming Rotary leaders, led by new District 3810 Governor Ernest Yuyek, to not only equal what had been done by their immediate predecessors but to try to excel even more.

ROTARY SERVES HUMANITY: I am therefore congratulating District 3810 Governor Ernest and all who compose his All Star Team (which includes my wife, former Judge Angelina Domingo Mauricio who was inducted at the same time as the All Star President of the Rotary Club of Intramuros) for their acceptance of the challenge to continue showing “Rotary Serving Humanity” for the next one whole year ending on June 30, 2017.

As the new leaders of the Philippines’ premier Rotary district, District 3810, Yuyek and his team would not only be working under the shadows of the great men and women who have served before them since Rotary first came to our country in 1919 with the establishment of the Rotary Cub of Manila (the first Rotary Club in Asia).

What is more, Yuyek and his All Star Team are compelled to lead the way in fulfilling the vision of All Star Rotary International President John Germ for Rotary Year 2016-2017, which is to share more of Rotary’s projects in far-flung areas of the world  while making sure that current Rotarians maintain their membership with Rotary, and help in enticing others, particularly the younger generations, to be a part of it.

OBET PAGDANGANAN, GREAT ROTARY LEADER: Of course, I also give my felicitations to a man of honor, Roberto “Obet” Pagdanganan, whom Yuyek replaced. Obet brought with his governorship of District 3810 for Rotary Year 2015-2016 his vast experiences as Bulacan governor, and Cabinet member under former President Arroyo, easily making his stint as Rotary District 3810 leader a truly beneficial year.

In hindsight, I am willing to concede that Obet may have been the most appropriate choice to lead Rotary International’s District 3810 (which covers Manila, Pasay City, Cavite, and Mindoro Occidental) for the year that was, in that his charisma, humility, and expert leadership culled from his long years as a public official, enabled him and the district to achieve all that they set out to fulfill at the start of his term.

As District 3810 embarks on a new year of service under the leadership of District Governor Ernest Yuyek and his All Star Team, every Rotarian-constituent of theirs are content in the thought that Yuyek and his chosen officials will be equal to the task that had been set before them not only by the Rotarians who installed them to power but even by God Himself who made this destiny of leadership a reality for them.
