Natural science defines gravity as “what goes up, must come down”. It goes further by revealing why our Planet Earth does not deviate from its orbit around the Sun and keep its inhabitants from being blown away into space, because of gravity. It pulls them down and hold them firmly attached to the Planet. Human existence has also its ups and downs. Today your are up there in the limelight basking in glory and fame, and since “tomorrow is promise to no one” you may find yourself down there wallowing in shame.

True stories of twist of fate, spares no one. Many great men and women in the history of mankind have their own share of misgivings and twist of fate. In the Philippines, famous, influential and powerful leaders, also ended up in shame, all because of the idea politics, an invention of modern man to replace the prehistoric trait of a blood thirsty caveman. What happened to four Presidents of our Republic is a classic example of this phenomenon, the four Philippine Presidents started famous and revered but ended up the “whipping boy” of the Filipino people.

Who will ever think the late President Ferdinand Marcos will end up being refused to be buried even in the resting place of Presidents, after all the good things he has done for the Filipinos which until today our country is proud of? Who will ever believe former lady President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo ended up imprisoned after improving the economy of the country and hired brilliant people to her cabinet? What about the almost to be saint late President Corazon Cojuangco Aquino, who after her death is haunted by the age old bloody problem of “sacadas” in their Hacienda Luisita? And her son, the immediate past president of the Republic, whose popularity in the beginning of his Presidency has the highest rating and whose influence and friendship is the most sought after commodity in the country? but, ended up almost in disgrace for the charges of misgoverning the country and the bungling of many serious public concerns? Indeed “what goes up must come down”.

Lately, a famous neophyte lady senator is in the brink of political disaster. Going viral in the social media is her misadventures as a public servant. Her alleged involvement with alleged drug lords is going further away from her former government position as a feisty Justice Secretary and worst alleged sex scandal is bugging her and may bring her down to shame as a legislator of the country, and it may cause her the Senate position. “Where there is smoke, there is fire”?.

Scoop: Fame and shame or shame and fame, like from rags to riches, can happen anytime to anybody. It is one phenomenon that no one can stop and it can happen at will. Indeed, it is true that someone is mightier than human beings and is deciding our destiny. To those dreaming, keep dreaming but work to survive. To those who are fortunate and made, watch out,  the odds can be even anytime. Agree or disagree.
