Table Talk

Fight verbally and frontally the President of the Philippines, libel versus libel and risk to face more expose and face possible drug charges or shut up as if nothing happened and risk to lose her friends and followers the credibility as a “fighting” and feisty Senator and former Secretary of Justice? These are hard choices, that Senator Leila De Lima maybe facing right now. The choice is hers and the loser are the Filipino people.

It is hard to believe that Senator De Lima’s  misadventure to prove to the country her worth and capability as a neophyte Senator and be a champion of “human rights” will go this far and “disturbed the hornets nest” and “opened Pandora’s box” of President’s Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s administration. Both President Duterte and Senator De Lima are fighting on the same front of  “Human Rights”. The only difference is, they are on the opposite end of the angle. President Duterte is on the side of the lawmen and victims of drug related criminality while Senator De Lima is seemingly on the side of alleged law breakers and drug lords. But, both groups are claiming violations of  their “Human rights”.

Netizens’ opinions on the issue are also varied. Those opinions are going viral and tend to have different interpretation and perception. The hardline defense for Senator De Lima’s  predicament comes from her party mates and allies and invoking “gender” respect. President Duterte, on other hand vividly banks on hard evidences and witnesses and his large followings. This is not a matter of “fishing expedition” a legal parlance to obtain a case but rather for Senator De Lima’s camp to refute point by point, a public accusation coming from the highest office of the country.

Many of our countrymen may not know the real cause of this controversy that has affected the very foundation of the Philippine society and that may lead to a clash of opinions between the legislative and executive departments. But one thing is revealing, for the first time, the country has a President that walks his talk and unafraid to step the toes even of those many presumed as the President’s friends for the welfare and security of our country. In the end the truth will prevail and the wrong doer will be punished and the Filipinos will be protected against shenanigans and hypocrites who are the real enemy of the government and the Filipino people.

Scoop:Some Senators who won last election have doubtful victory. Many Filipino voters are now asking themselves, where did those winning Senators got their votes? Party patronage votes? Narco politics? vote buying and bribery? PCOS election cheating? One of them is the answer, as in some election results in some cities, provinces and municipalities. Almost all Filipinos know there was cheating in the last election but nobody cares. Only the losers who up to now are still “sour graping”. Agree or disagree.
