Table Talk

BY Mike S Apostol

A friend called up Table Talk to comment on a column item recently that authorities in Zamboanga City are passive when President Duterte declared a State of Lawless Violence throughout the country, when, in fact, Zamboanga City is one critical area for a “spill over” of violence from the ongoing military offensive against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in Jolo, Sulu and Basilan. My friend who is a national official involved with local government affairs assured Table Talk that every measure of defense against ASG or any lawless groups that want to disturb the peace in Zamboanga city is well in place but only confidentially so as not to be burned by enemies of the state, who practically have people or informants inside the city.

My friend said they are doing their best and are using almost all government resources and logistics to guard Zamboanga City, which is a valuable asset of the government.

“You cannot see the safety measures, but, the authorities are in control and are all over the city including the barangays”, my friend said.

This is a fair warning to those groups that have plans or are planning to disturb the peace in Zamboanga City. The military and PNP  authorities in the city with the support of the city government are prepared to meet them head on. Gone are the days of maximum tolerance  and peace talks and dialogues, after lawless elements violated the law. It has been noted that these “maximum tolerance” and peace talks and dialogues have been abused by the culprits and many times treated these moves as delaying tactics to re-group and recruit members.

Police and military authorities who have joined their efforts to combat all forms of criminality, as an offshoot of the Declaration of State of Lawless Violence assured the citizens of the city, that known criminals, drug lords, pushers and addicts and even big time smugglers, are being monitored and are completing evidences, before they pounce on them. This is again a fair warning to malefactors in the city.

In the facebook news on ASEAN affairs, the Sabah Malaysia Military Command of the Malaysian Government, revealed that defense preparation in Sabah, Malaysia by Malaysian authorities are in place and are prepared to repulse any intrusion from individuals or groups from our southern islands who might escape our country from the Philippine Armed Forces on-going offensive in Jolo, Sulu and Basilan. Malaysia in the past has been invaded by forces of the Royal Sultanate of Sulu through Sabah Malaysia but the invasion was unsuccessful. Malaysian government engaged the forces of the Royal Sultanate of Sulu  by “Gurkhas” British trained soldiers in the Malaysian Armed Forces. President Duterte wanted to hire “Gurkhas” to fight the Abu Sayyaf Group in Jolo and Basilan provinces.

Scoop: ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman, in a press release nationwide said that the ASG is the “traitors of Islam”. ASG atrocity and cruelty inflicted on their victims and hostages are against Islam beliefs, according to Governor Hataman. Islam is peace and love, he said. Many Christians who are the target of ASG atrocities and ISIS targets in the world, will wake up into the reality of Governor Hataman’s statement. This is the easiest way to regional and world peace. Agree or disagree.
