LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal…” (Psalm 119:160, the Holy Bible).

ABANDONMENT OF MILF SECESSIONIST OBJECTIVES MAKE JAPAN MEETING GOOD: Now that it is clear that the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) is no longer trying to secede from the Republic—with its officials saying what they want now is a sub-state under the Philippine government—the Japan meeting between President Aquino and MILF chair Al Haj Murad Ebrahim is not so bad after all, and may yet turn out to be a real gigantic step towards achieving peace in Mindanao.

In fact, with this clear abandonment of MILF’s earlier position to break away from the Philippines, there should really be more meetings not only between President Aquino and Murad, but between other MILF leaders and Aquino government officials, not just to advance the peace process, but to immediately find ways to improve the economy in Mindanao with concrete projects even while peace talks are on-going.

ECONOMIC PROJECTS FOR MINDANAO WHILE PEACE TALKS ARE ON-GOING: And perhaps, the Aquino government can try to immediately start  some of the economic projects being proposed by some well-meaning citizens like former Tarlac Rep. Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. In an earlier interview with me, Cong. Peping said Mindanao could produce long grain rice for the consumption of Muslims in other parts of the world.

Cojuangco’s idea revolves around utilizing thousands of idle lands in Mindanao, especially those in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), for producing long grain rice, which would then be sold to Muslim countries who would be asked to pre-order the product even before they are planted and grown.

Then, Cojuangco said, buyers of long grain rice would be asked to pay, not in money, but in oil and related products, which would then be sold at greatly reduced prices in Mindanao. Cojuangco added that the Muslim buyers of long grain rice could even be asked to put up oil refineries in the South, which could further spur economic activity in the region.

If the Aquino government wants the sincerity it is displaying to resolve the Mindanao peace problem to continue, it must set aside personal differences among its officials and be humble enough to try ideas that could really help Mindanao. The long-grain rice project is actually just one of these ideas.

TRIED AND TESTED RULES FOR SUCCESS: Here are tried and tested rules for success: “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful…” (Joshua 1: 8, the Holy Bible).

“…but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint…” (Isaiah 40:31, the Holy Bible).

“…But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well…” (the Lord Jesus Christ, in Matthew 6:33, the Holy Bible).
