TODAY’S MANNA

BY Berlie G. Yap

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.” (2 Tim. 4:7-8, ESV)

How will you eat a carabao?Try to especially ask this same question to a 5 year old child, andthe usual answer is either a confusion or a total dismay. But how about you, can you also give me an honest and quick answer? The trick is: this question is analogous by nature, and the answer should be—one can eat the beast by slicing it, freeze some and cook different courses every day, until the last bone is scraped.

The substance—we live one day at a time. By worrying how you may finish the race before the real marathon can start, will surely give you the hard time to run the very competition. In this wise, we also are not only talking about literal contests but our dreams, desires and aspirations in life. The Lord Jesus said, “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” (Matt. 6:34, ESV)

But on the other hand, if you will take the journey one step at a time, you may just wonder later on, that you are already finishing the race and that you are about to even win the very thing which you have fought for some time already. In the real game called life, the one and single rule is so long as you don’t give up and but will instead continue until the finish, you shall be a SURE WINNER.

The thing which completely defines whether or not one is a failure is not the strength of the trials, but rather the real endurance of the person. Thus, when you feel like to give up, just remember that after your ordeal is the absolute blessing which awaits you at the end. It is funny to think that our seeming enemies are actually there, as originally planned by the almighty, not to kill us but to refine us—to make us better and stronger persons.

“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” (Prov. 27:17, ESV)Ouradversaries may not be necessarily persons, but maybe poverty, life’s hardships, all sorts of disadvantages and etc. Never use life’s difficulties as an excuse why you can’t achieve your dreams! But take them instead as your way of challenge to push your limits and realize your personal dreams or ambitions.

If it will take you to studyand workat the same time, endeavor such! Remember, nothing is impossible in the canopy of heaven. Besides, never also face the battle alone. Depend on the Lord. Trust His grace and provision. Fight your battle one day at a time with God, and sure one day He will amaze you that you then have already reached the finish line victoriously.

God helps the determined. He refuels them every time they run-out of strength. I love to watch gladiator movies. Now, we too are like gladiators. Although our individual arena differs one to the other. As it is said, we have unique lives, challenges and destinies. Thus, we never can fully copy one’s life. But of course, we still can draw inspiration from others.

Do not be mistaken, it is wrong to mimic others and elevate them to be like gods already. You are you! God created you as an exceptional one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Do not make it as your goal to be a clone to somebody else. Choose your own path, never fully emulate others because the absolute guarantee is you can end more confused.

Very nice to finish your course. Such feeling may be comparative to reaching the summit of a high mountain. The sense of freedom and fulfillment is the complete description of your emotion. Another thing, when you completed the race, it won’t just be you alone to rejoice and celebrate, but your love-ones also. In fact, they can be happier than you.

Nobody is born a failure. One chooses it to be his path. Every day we face plenty of decisions. And what we decide now can determine to what shall be the outcome of our future. Decide to endure! Be tenacious also! I pray that God’s enabling grace be yours. The journey may be long still, but keep your paces one at a time. Because surely, at the end you can also reach your own finish line.
