TODAY’S MANNA

BY Berlie G. Yap

Who says words are nothing and do not hurt! Words which come out from our mouths may either give life or can kill. The Scriptures say, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Prov. 18:21, NIV)People who know how to control their tongues are more powerful than any strong man on earth, for he is able to manage not just his life or his present time, but also those whom he loves and their future.

Little do we know that our words, actually, can decree things to literally affect everything around us; everything single statement we say becomes indelible in the spirit realm, and they are those whom God shall determine to what we can be at the present and what we shall be in the future.Believe you me, because the Word of God said it so. God cannot lie.

Thus, when you feel like being tempted to burst out to whine, blame or curse, always consider their consequences. There are no mere words folks! But every word we say carries a weight of either blessings or burdens. Choose always the former, and they only are in the tip of your lips. Follow to what is written in the Bible as God’s promises, not your present feelings or emotions because the heart of man is deceitful. “The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; who can understand it?” (Jer. 17:9, NIV)

Often we burst in anger and begin to release our emotions subjectively, then later—after tensions can recede, we regret thenbecause some relationships were broken! The irresponsible statements or words did hurt already other people. Many at times, these same ones are actually the people closer or dear to our hearts—friends, relatives, loved-ones, children or spouses, whom—if we are in our natural feelings, we don’t want to injure.

The Word of God calls a person, who knows how to control himself or his words, WISE. “When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable, but he who restrains his lips is wise.” (Prov. 10:9, NIV) Self-control is wisdom! Now, here’s the common question—how about when one is in his anger, how can he control himself?

Anger is a legitimate emotions which God placed inside of us, to release our feelings when we are impaired, of course! Otherwise, if we don’t release those they can be toxic or to some even becomes a fatal eventuality. However, God said, “BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger”. (Eph. 4:26, NIV) Be free to release your anger but do them with self-control, God said it this way “DO NOT SIN”. How anger becomes a sin?

Eph. 4:26 says when we allow anger to stay in our hearts more than the sunset, sin lies! A prolonged anger develops to become a hatred, then ultimately hatred to bitterness. Forgiveness is a way of life that we ought to apply everyday, would we want to live a healthy one. Others though may take for them a little more time, for their anger to change to forgiveness. The principle, TIME HEALS. This is also true to some.

Anger becomes also a sin when we curse or burst profanity to our equals. Another is when we hurt others, especially the innocent. Hence, self-control is a virtue. He who knows how to control himself can also control his life and his future. Good things are his prospects and he shall have definitely a bright tomorrow. Ask others who succeeded, if they as well have a similar life value.

Life becomes a usual complication when one doesn’t have restraints. Think about gambling, a daily compulsion to involve to it is not anymore good. There how many families were dragged to countless of miseries because parents were involved to useless gambling?Vices also are other examples that we ought to apply self-control, else it may return to our own bodies and one day demand our very own health.

Men think that when they smoke or drink, they are tough. It’s a wrong notion! It is a deception big cigarette and liquor companies do condition the minds of patrons and users, to bind them onto their products.Ask doctors to confirm my opinion. Better is the sleep of a man, who doesn’t have vices, at night, than to an alcoholic who can’t close his eyes unless he drinks. The former also wakes-up the following day fresh and strong than the latter.

Now, how can one become free from those stuffs and start to live a better life? Let me scribble five simple steps—first, commit your life to God; second, ask the assistance of others who know how to help you overcome your struggles; third, start to make self-discipline, like to learn to say no to peer pressures; fourth, join or find a good community where you can hang around for your new beginning; fifth, control your words to determine a good outcome of your future.
