TODAY’S MANNA

BY Berlie G. Yap

“For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.” (Prov. 24:16, ESV)

Trials along, to any man, is inevitable. It can come anytime, and in any different forms, but the promise of the Lord—if such man is righteous, he will continueto rise again and again, even up to seven times! Number seven is symbolic to perfection; in other words, until the return of Christ, the righteous will continue to rise, everytime he stumbles.

Of course, nobody is perfect! Everyone understands this simple truth. Thus, sometimeswe can blow things along, without us knowing it even. Now, the opposite of our mistakes are their necessary repercussions. Consequences may often be unbearable. We can find many similar stories, from the Bible, which we can glean limitless wisdom.

Let’s see Jacob—on his younger days.He was aggressive and pretty positive to his outlook in life. Albeit, he mixed his styles with little deceptions and cunning;it was wrong, and such displeased God. He deceived his father, stole the birthright of his elder twin-brother and gave a sure mess to their family. His actions sowed serious division at home.

Hence, he had to pay the price for his errors. He fled towards a foreign land. Earlier, he was only a home-buddy, but because of the troubles he made, he was now finding himself running away—far and far away from home. In 20 solid years, he waded painstakingly his life. He scarred his hands, he easily grew unnecessary wrinkles in his brow, and for countless of times he had to stand face to face to real difficulties.

But in those same humbling moments, the man never gave-up. His trials taught him a lot of things, one of which was life’s brokenness, and also humility. He also had losses; it was in those same times that he understood the real values in life. Thus, he gradually changed to become more reasonable, until he didn’t just win the approval of God, but also of men. God changed his name later to Israel. His life’s story can be found in the first book of the Bible—Genesis.

Quitting cannot solve any problem; on the contrary, it may even complicate such situation, until they can turn to become an actual no-way-out trial. Though how much strong is the storm in your life, the very secret to overcome it is by tenacity! He who remains committed, up to the end, is a sure victor.

But of course, we always need the strength of God. Remember, we can’t stand all by ourselves alone. We daily need the grace of God. Take the almighty away from the picture, then you will find serious troubles. In fact, the Bible calls a FOOL—anyone who doesn’t believe in God. “The FOOL says in his heart, ‘THERE IS NO GOD.’ They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.” (Ps. 14:1, ESV)

God called also the rich man in the Gospel, who was arrogant and showed that he never needed God, a fool. “But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’” (Lk. 12:20, ESV) Thus, the crazy is not the guy who has no mindanymore and keeps to walk endlessly in downtown, but any man who does not believe in the existence of God nor trust to His power.

God doesn’t fail! He is a refuge to those who trust in Him. The idea is: God is a hiding place, to those who rely on Him. Like the FORTRESS in Rio Hondo, the place was a refuge of those soldiers from the threats of surrounding marauders in the past, when we depend to God, He will surround us, too, with His invincible grace and strength.

God’s love to us is always greater than ours to Him. It is without question that you and I have our degree of love to the almighty. Notwithstanding, his love, loyalty and faithfulness to us are constantly greater. The Lord is dependable. If men can fail us, the Lord does not! He even remains faithful in our unfaithfulness.

God wants us to experience His goodness daily. In few of the golden and great blessings which the Father allows to fall in our lives are those humble learnings we reap in the process, when we go through trials. His only condition though—to us, is not to give-up! Quitters are sure losers, but the tenacious are destined to be champions on earth. Thus, if you are going through hard trials today, trust the Lord and cling on to Him. He is only a whisper away, give your life to Jesus my friend.
