“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” (Jn. 15:16, NIV)

Fruits here are analogous in meaning, they are not literally mangoes, apples and the like. Few of its meaning are our personal success, the change in our lives, and the people we bring to God—those whom we influence spiritually. I wish to discuss these three here, quickly. Again, God wants you and I to be fruitful. Life on earth is very short. We ought to make the most of it and to never waste it.

Do you know that success comes from the Lord? He told Joshua, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” (Josh. 1:8, ESV)

God gave us the key to do it, by tucking the Word of God in our hearts day and night. Meditation is more than just reading, it includes relishing it inside your heart. What are the contents of your minds daily? They ought to be mixed with the promises of God, not doubts, unbelief or fear. The Word of God gives us success.

Many try to fulfill their dreams with their own strength, without the help of God. Such is an arrogance and is proven to be a fatal mistake. Though one may be gifted and has better influence in life, it still behooves him to acknowledge God. After all, any gift we have are from God. We own nothing that includes even our own breath. God gives it to us, anytime he also can take it from us.

“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” (Ps. 127:1, ESV) Anything we plan for, without the help of God, is VAIN. Yes, we may gain temporary achievements, but such do not stay longer. God’s fruits, as Jesus promised, last long. They stay long on earth that even our children may enjoy them too.

Changes in our lives are also the fruits which the Father desires for, to see into our lives. We are born into this world with the nature of sin. One doesn’t have to commit a wrong to be a sinner. Sin is in our blood. Thus, we need the grace of God to transform us. We are naturally impatient, but God wants us to be patient. It is in such wise that we ought to change.

The prodigal son, in the Gospel, lived in infamy and wasted the fortune of his father, but he later changed. The Bible said that the father waited for him since day one, when he left, to go home. Relatively, it is how also God is to every person in the world. God wills that all people will repent and give his life to God.

It is not boring to follow Jesus. Fulfillment and satisfaction is the reality to carry you, when you will give your life to God. We only have certain apprehensions or negative notions. Others think that loving or following God is only for the weak. Countless of great and strong men in history are actual believers. You cannot call Sen, Pacquiao as weak, being a world champion at that. Yet, he is not ashamed to declare his new found faith in Christ.

The influence we give to others is the last fruit. Young or old, rich or poor, male or female—each of us has our way to influence others. Now such influence which God awaits and wants to see bearing into our lives are the good influence. We are created by God to share. Jesus mentioned in the Gospel about being a light and a salt. The two mean the same, it is influence.

In the short years we have here on earth, let’s use our lives to affect others in a good manner. God watches our steps every day. He is our silent observers. Every act we do he knows and sees. Nothing is hidden before him. We can hide to man but never to our Creator. In fact, the Bible said that all of our acts will one day be judged by him.
