“I cried aloud to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy hill. (Selah) I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of many thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around.” (Ps. 3:4-6, KJV)

If you are a simple housewife, then all you think—in your heart, is only to serve your family. Well, one mother/wife bought a bunch of fishes at the local market, for her family’s lunch. While preparing them, their pet cat ate a piece of the fishes. It later shocked everyone in the house, because their said pet cat suddenly shivered uncontrollably and died. The question of the people in the house was if there was poison in the fishes, which they just bought!

This story actually happened yesterday. In fact, the said family complained to the police. Without a doubt, such incident cast some fear to the hearts of the Zamboangueño people. Hence, I wish to write some assurance and promises from the Bible in this corner, to console us a bit. First of all, protection comes from the Lord.

One can be in a total absence of trouble, but do you know he still can be vulnerable to other dangers? On the other hand, another can also be surrounded with turmoil, but God is with him—then immunity is his. The Lord Jesus cautioned His followers, “Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.” (Lk. 10:3, ESV)

In another instance, the Master did also forewarn the apostles, “they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” (Mk. 16:18, ESV) Short of saying, the Lord assured us that safety is ours, if we walk with Him.

I believe with all of my heart, that the woman who bought the fishes, from the market, was under the immunity of God. Else, worse could have happened to them—her entire family. Although, the police are presently doing yet their further investigations, as to confirm if whether or not there was poison in the subject fishes.

It behooves us to constantly or daily pray for guidance and direction to the Father. Danger can be everywhere. Admittedly, there can be people everywhere, whose sole motives are to hurt others. There are also those who want to increase soon, at the expense of other people. Ours is a big world. People do have different motives, which are hidden in their heart.

One cannot right away adjudge another, as an evil person just by mere first impression. It is in this wise that we extremely need the guidance of God. The almighty is only a whisper away. He only waits that we approach to Him and ask His help. One thing more, accidents and misfortunes are not from God.

We live in two different worlds at the same time. Beyond our physical eyes is also a spiritual world. Angels and demons are real. Demons exist to harm people. They hate God, because of their rebellion to Him in the eternity past. They cannot harm God, so they go to God’s creation—by harming men, they think that they also have already hurt God.

Man’s evil intents can often be an indirect acts of demons. Demonic spirits allure people to do evil. Now, think about this scenario. What if there was poison indeed to the subject fishes? Two theories may cloud such suspicion, to wit: the fishes were a product of either a dynamite or cyanide fishing. The acts of using those noxious chemicals were done by crazy fishermen, but it could also be true that they might be incited by some unseen demons, in their minds.

People nowadays do not anymore believe onto spirit beings. Well, our modern technology and often liberal philosophies have already eroded our foundations to faith. But whether we believe or do not anymore, such cannot alter the very truth that the forces of good and evil continue to rage every day.

That if God uses vessels to manifest His will and righteousness on earth, Satan and his cohorts do also influence human beings to express their evil plans against God and men. Prayer invokes God’s presence to surround us and our families. It also expels all forms of evil around. Satan hates to see us kneel before our Creator. But it is only in prayer where one becomes immune to Satan’s harm.
