TODAY’S MANNA

BY Berlie G. Yap

“Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops.” (Lk. 12:3, ESV)

For any wrongdoer, it will always be a mistake to think that he can easily get away from whatever error or deliberate wrong he did. And much when such error or wrong directly harmed other people. Remember, God is always our silent witness, whether we do right or do wrong. God rewards our righteousness, but punishment will always wait for any sins, one may commit.

Sin pays, the Bible said so. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom. 6:23, ESV). God gave to humankind the earth to possess. The planet is in our hands to exploit. Thus, every man has his own portion to develop any part of the earth, whichever he wants. But such right has limitations, one of which is to endeavor care and never to impair others.

God wants us to play fair, always. It can be in the area of business; students to their studies, and etc. Now, when we cheat, things will start then to spiral down. Ain’t it nice to sleep at night, when you didn’t abuse or misuse others? On the other hand, we even can wonder how evil people may manage sleep, despite that hurting others is their lifestyle!

Their feelings can already be calloused or have grown to be totally obstinate. Hence, to feel anything is already fully absent inside their hearts. I pray that it won’t happen to you or to me. David when he sinned against God—by killing Uriah and sleeping with the latter’s wife, God then confronted him. The man repented; Psalm 51 was his prayer.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and TAKE NOT YOUR HOLY SPIRIT FROM ME. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.” (Ps. 51:10-12, ESV) David pleaded to God not to take God’s Spirit away from him. Why?

Friends, the Holy Spirit is the One who gives us the constant conviction, every time we commit a wrong. Such discomfort you feel in your heart, is not just a mere guilt. It is the work of the Holy Spirit, leading you to an actual repentance. Indeed, the kindness of the Lord leads us to change our heart, or repent.

Better to gain or achieve little, so long as you played fairly. What be the use of gaining much and growing too soon, but any fruits which you glean along are from cheating? No glory to it! Besides, any wealth gotten by unrighteousness can easily fade away like a wind. God swears, “…and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.” (Prov. 13:22, ESV)

Tastier is the bread of a fair man; but it is also like a gravel when such is gained by dishonesty. Accordingly, there are fishermen all over who use sodium cyanide in fishing. Sure, they easily harvest fish. No sweat! But think of it the consequence it brings as an actual detriment to the consuming public. How probably these folks can stomach such practice!

God is not asleep. St. Paul warned us, “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.” (Gal. 6:7, ESV) The Creator has always His ways to meet us at the end. He rewards the faithful. Well, God gives grace to the sinners. But what about those who insist to be disobedient? God shall punish them!

Nothing on earth is more rewarding, when you increase in life without impairing others. It won’t just be people to commend you, but God Himself, in heaven, can become your friend, too. I know of a woman, who never stepped to high school, because she was only an illegitimate daughter and their family was very poor. But she worked harder, and did not abuse other people. To make long story short, she succeeded.

She is now in US, because one of her daughters did become a doctor. She even is now an American citizen. Once, her own niece swindled her. The latter lost more than a million. The former did not sue the latter, because she still thought of their relationship. How God brought justice to the two? The aunt is blessed beyond any measure! She is now 83 years old and can still travel back and forth—USA and Philippines. What happened to the niece?

The latter is presently losing their house because of numerous debts. She is also sickly. Her husband doesn’t have a work. Their children behave without guidance. Short of saying, the niece reaps the consequences of her evil acts, in the past. By all means, let’s work harder and achieve our dreams in righteousness. God shall bless your sacrifices. He will not forget your pains, good faith and honesty.
