The Zamboanga City Medical Center is set to offer new specialty centers this year to offer more specialized services to patients.

Dr. Romeo Ong, ZCMC Chief of Hospital, said that among the specialized centers to be accommodated by the hospital are the following:  A Cancer Center; Centers for Heart, Lung, Brain, Trauma, Reproductive Health, Neonatology, Burn and Biomarine Technology.

At present, patients needing specialized services still go to Manila or Cebu for treatment.

The centers are expected to be fully operational by 2019.

Services will include trained doctors and equipment for each of the centers.

In preparation for this, at least 20 doctors are now training and will be graduating before the centers open.

Ong said that ZCMC was chosen by the Department of Health to house the centers due to its strategic location and its capability.

The opening of centers is also part of the Philippine Development Plan.  (RGAAGo)
