LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them…” (The Lord Jesus, in Matthew 18:19-20, the Bible).

PINOYS IN LIBYA SUFFERING GOD’S CURSES: Once again, Filipinos have found themselves suffering the curses promised by God to those who no longer truly listen to Him and who no longer sincerely obey His commands, this time in Tripoli, the capital of turmoil-gripped Libya, with one Pinoy engineer being abducted by Libyan rebels and the Philippine embassy being attacked.

Even now, there is no word whether the engineer is still alive, and there is no assurance that embassy officials, including Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Rafael Seguis who is there in Libya to find ways to bring back overseas Filipino workers, could sneak out of that country safe and sound while rebel and government forces there are battling it out.

Again, we will be content with wearing our eyes out, watching the developments with bated breath and hushed murmurings, exactly in the manner described by the Bible, in Deuteronomy 28:32: “Your sons and daughters will be given to other nations, and you will wear out your eyes waiting for them day after day, powerless to lift a hand…”

NOT LISTENING TO, AND NOT OBEYING, GOD BRING HIS CURSES: Why are God’s curses happening to us? The Bible, in Deuteronomy 28:15, gives us the answer—because we no longer listen to God and because we no longer obey Him, He is sending his curses, all aimed at destroying our race.

Here is what Deuteronomy 28:15 says: “However, if you do not obey the Lord  your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you…”

Even if many Filipinos will say otherwise, the truth is that many of us no longer listen to God, not reading His Bible anymore, and many of us no longer obey Him, as we insist on doing that which pleases our senses, or that which gives us comfort and easy life, even if these contravene God’s Word.

SEEK GOD FIRST AND HIS BLESSINGS WILL COME: The remedy is for Filipinos to go back to God, by reading His Bible, meditating on it day and night, and obeying everything that is written in it, so that we could regain prosperity and God’s blessings (see Joshua 1:8).

2 Chronicles 7:14 gives this assurance for all of us: “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sins and heal their land.”

The Lord Jesus Christ, in Matthew 6:33, also gives us the rule on being blessed forever: “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all of these things shall be added unto you…”
