LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!

People take refuge in the shadow of your wings…(Psalm 36:7, the Holy Bible).

CHRISTMAS MYSTERY II: IT WAS GOD WHO CAME TO EARTH: There is a second Christmas mystery that I wish to discuss here. This is the mystery of the love of God for mankind. If ordinary Christians will be asked about the kind of love that God showered upon humanity, the ready answer of many of them would bring them to John 3:16 of the Bible.

For ordinary Christians, this is how they would normally translate John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in Him will not perish but will have everlasting life.”

When I was just starting to study the Bible, that was the same translation of John 3:16 that I accepted, to expound on God’s love for all of us. However, when God started giving me an inspiration that He wanted me to work for Him, my understanding of John 3:16 slowly changed, compelling me to adopt a completely different translation of the verse.

THE ACCURATE VERSION OF JOHN 3:16: What is the translation of John 3:16 that I have come to accept now? It is like this: “For God so loved the world He Himself came down to earth from heaven, in human likeness, in the form of man, with flesh and blood, and accepted in Himself the penalty for man’s sinfulness.

“He did this so that whoever will accept and receive Him, and believe and have faith in Him as God and Savior, and as God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, will not perish but will have eternal life, and would even be given the right to become a child of God…”

As I see it and as the Children of God Blood Kin of the Christ Church (in Filipino, AND KNK) sees it, this is the true mystery of Christmas, pursuant to what is stated in the Bible. God willed to come down to earth, and even accepted the punishment that man deserved because of his many sins (which punishment means being consigned to the eternal hell of fire and worms), because of His great love for all of us.

Is there proof in the Bible that God Himself came down to earth in the form of man? Yes, and this could be found in Genesis 3:25, Isaiah 7:14 and 9:6, Matthew 1:18-25, Luke 1:26-38, and John 1:1-14. From these verses, we can see that the baby boy who was conceived by, and born from, the Virgin Mary as a human being was in reality the “Mighty God, Everlasting Father.”

These verses will also show us that this baby boy, who is the “Mighty God, Everlasting Father”, has a Name, which is the Name of the Father which was given to the baby boy by an angel, and this Name is “Jesus”.

Why did God Himself come down to earth on the first Christmas? Because of His great love for man, because of which He did not want him to suffer in hell. He agreed to receive in Himself the penalty that should have been meted out to man because of sin, and this is the greatest Christmas gift all of us who accepted and believed in Him ever received.
