LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… Train the child in the way that he should go, and he will never depart from it even when he grows old…” (Proverbs 22:6, the Holy Bible).

INVESTIGATION ON DAVAO CITY MALL FIRE, SCARY: With due respect to President Duterte, the creation by his government of an inter-agency body from the Philippine National Police (PNP), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), to investigate and “come up with the truth” about the fire that hit the NCCC Mall in Davao City on December 23, 2017 is a bit scary.

Why is it scary? Well, the probe makes it sound like there was arson, or intentional burning or setting on fire, of the NCCC Mall. If arson would be proved to be behind that deadly fire, what would come across is that there is no more security for people going to malls, not only in Davao City but in the entire country as well. It would appear that if something is desired to be burned hereabouts, it gets burned somehow!

On the other hand, if it was not arson and that fire was merely the result of an accident, it would still be totally disappointing, for it would indicate lack of emergency exits or other points of egress which people could have used during the fire. If this is going to be the reason, how was the mall permitted to operate in the first place? Just asking, Davao City Mayor Sarah Carpio.

OBLIGATIONS OF POLICEMEN UNDER R.A. 7438 (II): Under Republic Act 7438, or the law imposing certain obligations on the part of authorities effecting the arrest of anyone, there is a duty on the part of the arresting officers to provide a lawyer to the person they are arresting, from the moment the arrest is effected, up to and until the completion of the investigation of that arrested person.

We can find this particular obligation of law enforcement officers arresting suspects under the law’s Sections 2 (a) and 2 (b).

According to Section 2 (a), anyone who is “invited for questioning”, or is actually arrested, or is being investigated for any crime, has the absolute right to be assisted by a lawyer at all times. Officers are obliged to provide this assistance of lawyers as a matter of law.

Policemen, soldiers, or any other law enforcement officers who will not provide a lawyer to those they have invited for questioning, or arrested, or are investigating, will be imprisoned for a period of 10 years, and would even be barred from holding any other government position for the rest of their lives. There is more to this, God willing.

WHY ARE THERE MANY KIDS WHO ARE NOW BAD-MANNERED? (II): Many Filipino parents’ neglect, lack of attention and capacity to teach their children as they are growing up constitute the principal reason why, from my point of view, these kids grow up to be rebellious, bad-mannered, and shamelessly disrespectful of their elders.

To remedy this, parents must endeavor to sincerely pay attention to their children everyday of their lives, as much as possible. From what I have experienced, the best way of paying attention to children is by patiently teaching them the Word of God from the Bible. What parts of the Bible must parents teach their children?

First, we must teach our kids that there is a God and Savior who created all of us and who also has the power to take us out of this world. We must teach them the awesomeness of this power of God, which can give us the good, happy, and prosperous lives we all dream of having, if we only listen to, and obey, His commands. We must also teach our children that God is just, who will not hesitate to punish anyone who disobeys Him, in this world and in eternity.
