KAKAMPI MO ANG BATAS

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… Train the child in the way he should go, and he will never depart from it…” (Proverbs 22:6, the Holy Bible).

QUIAPO RUMBLE: JAIL PARENTS FOR THEIR KIDS’ UNRULY CONDUCT: Parents who consent to the wrongdoing of their children are the ones truly at fault for the kids’ resulting wayward behavior, coarse and disrespectful attitude, and sinful mental state and rude language. Parents like these inevitably bring their children to perdition, and to sure death and destruction, whether they care to admit it or not.

This was the sorry state of things that some fathers and mothers from Manila manifested in the wee hours of the morning on Thursday, February 08, 2018, when they even had the gall to complain against social welfare officers of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) who rounded up their children while they were in a rumble with other children near the Quiapo Church.

Imagine, instead of these parents appreciating the DSWD officials who stopped the kids from hurting other kids and even themselves in the course of that rumble, in a public place yet, foul charges even came out from their mouths, accusing the officials of having allegedly violated the rights of their children. I suggest that, to impose discipline among children, the first ones we should incarcerate, if they ever cause any trouble, are their parents.

PARENTS ARE UNABLE TO DISCIPLINE THEIR CHILDREN BECAUSE THEY HAE NO DISCIPLINE THEMSELVES: If the truth be told, for every child that roams the streets in the dead of the night or in the wee hours of dawn, for every kid that is possessed with courage to engage in a brawl just about anywhere, or cause mischief as if mischief is written in their veins, there is a parent who either failed or refused to do or discharge their parental duties and responsibilities, particularly in instilling in their offspring even the most basic rules on good manners and right conduct.

No children would dare venture aimlessly into dark and foreboding streets and alleys, on unholy hours yet, or have the boldness to figure in misbehavior by themselves or in the company of other wayward children, if their parents only managed to teach them good manners and right conduct, and healthy fear and sincere love of God, when they were growing up.

Unfortunately, the problem of Filipino children today is that, proper discipline was not instilled in their hearts and minds, because their own parents themselves lacked the capacity and the ability to guide and discipline them towards a righteous and therefore good and successful life. The parents themselves lack discipline, so that there is absolutely no way they could require their children to be disciplined.

TRAIN THE CHILD IN THE WAY THAT HE SHOULD GO: According to good teachings, children should be taught along the path of goodness and righteousness while they are still young. If during their childhood they are taught discipline and the rudiments of maintaining good behavior, they would never forget anymore what they learned. If, on the other hand, nothing of value was taught to them while they were growing up, we can be sure they would become men and women with skewered character.

Indeed, it maybe asked: what is it that we must be teaching children while they are still growing up? It is the truth that there is a powerful God who has the ability to allow—or, yes, disallow—anyone from having a good and peaceful life, depending on whether an individual has fear and love of Him. If there is fear and love of God among children, they would obey His commands.

If children would obey the commands of God, they would learn to love God with all their hearts, with all their strength, and with all their minds. They would also learn to love their neighbors as they love themselves. If this is the kind of thought that is given them and instilled in their hearts and minds, peace and prosperity will come upon them. Otherwise, they would suffer rebuke, poverty, and failure in everything they do.
