TODAY’S MANNA

BY Berlie G. Yap

“If they say, ‘Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood;let us ambush the innocent without reason;like Sheol let us swallow them alive, and whole, like those who go down to the pit; we shall find all precious goods,we shall fill our houses with plunder;throw in your lot among us;we will all have one purse’—my son, do not walk in the way with them;hold back your foot from their paths, for their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood.” (Prov. 1:11-16, ESV)

Businessmen, if you will, are quite the epitome to hard-work and industry. Hence, none may blame them if they increase and are blessed in life. On the other hand, the lazy should instead fully blame their indolence if they live under a brazen heaven! The law of industry applies to every human being, regardless to the color of his skin, nationality or gender.

To simply put: if you are industrious, a good life awaits you definitely ahead. We live in a broken world. We shall always find people who want to have things by short-cuts. These are the same folks who are not willing to dirty their hands and pay the price of industry. So, to circumvent the natural process of increase, they either steal or rob!

In the past two weeks, we have read in the news series of robbery hold-ups. To the writing of this article, the latest robbery was that in Upper Bunguiao—to a local businessman. The latter was shot several times by the intruding men. Luckily though, the latter survived from the wounds and was able to identify one of the assailants to the Sangali Police Station.

To gain is what God wanted to every human being. Jesus spoke about the parable of the talents. There were those three servants. The parable is an analogy to all of us. It is simply meaning that all of us received different and unique gifts from God Himself. Now, His mandate is that we multiply what little He gave us.

In another verse, the Lord commands, “WHATEVER YOUR HAND FINDS TO DO, DO IT WITH YOUR MIGHT, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going.” (Eccles. 9:10, ESV) No person can say, as a manner of a lousy excuse, that he has nothing in life which he can invest to increase his potentials.

I personally know hundreds of persons who were literally born in abject poverty, but their determination and strong spirit drove them gradually to their pathway of success. Remember, our God is a good Father. His plans are always for our betterment. What He has in His palms for you is a sure destiny, and not just a poor fate.

Now, it shall be our individual part to work for that destiny He pegged for our individual lives. You and I must run the race and FAIRLY! Play the game righteously without hurting others. Remember, it is our obligation to respect and honor our neighbors. To increase at the expense of others is wrong!

For example theft and robbery are not just simple crimes; they are actual sins before the eyes of God which shall have absolute consequences. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom. 6:23, ESV) In fact, here on earth, any criminal may be able to escape from the long arm of the law,but know, in the jurisdiction of the almighty,he can’t.

There is a Day of Judgment which is determined by the Creator Himself, so that all knees shall bow then and all tongues to confess in submission to the rule of God. When evil men commit their felonious acts here on earth, they could be thinking that they are already invincible and away from the punishment. Most of them do not also believe in the existence of God.

The Bible tells us to how God shall answer them one day, “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds;there is none who does good…The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of manHave they no knowledge, all the evildoerswho eat up my people as they eat breadand do not call upon the Lord? There they are in great terror, for God is with the generation of the righteous. You would shame the plans of the poor, but the Lord is his refuge.” (Ps. 14:1-2, 6, ESV)

God shall always defend the righteous but curse the evil. The righteous are the people who work and live on earth fairly, without increasing themselves at the expense of others. The evil on the other hand is the otherwise! Work your hard to reach your goals and dreams. The Father is on your side. He won’t leave you nor forsake you. Such is His promise!

God bless you.
