LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…  See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction… For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase... But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed…” (Deuteronomy 30:15-18, the Holy Bible).

GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS FROM THE MOONSOON AND FLOODS ON AUGUST 11, 2018: Somehow, I believe that something can be considered good news in the devastating monsoon rains that brought, yet again, severe flooding in Metro Manila and in  nearby provinces last Saturday, August 11, 2018. This good news was that, the only complaints that floated around then only pertained to the thousands getting stranded (once again) on account of the unmoving traffic, or about the forced evacuations (again) of affected people, and the scarcity of emergency food (again) for most of the flood victims.

In other countries, the outcome of such calamities is often vastly different: hundreds and even thousands are always reported dead, and millions of properties, crops, poultry and hogs either are normally destroyed or perish. But, how long can Filipinos be shielded from these deadly and devastating results from rains and floods? And, could it be true that there is no longer anything we can do to counter the damage coming from these natural disasters?

What happened last Saturday in Metro Manila and nearby localities once more proved that the danger and threat to the lives of many Filipinos arising from natural calamities can no longer be abated or stopped. And the truly bad news here is the truth that if we are only to rely only on the government to solve the problem, there is really nothing that it can do. This has been shown by its failure to solve the flooding that occurs every time the rains come for a long time now, notwithstanding the change of presidents of the Philippines.

WE SHOULD USE THE ONLY WAY GIVEN BY JESUS TO FIGHT DEATH AND DESTRUCTION FROM RAINS AND FLOODS: Consequently, we should all be compelled to think and explore other possible alternatives to afford us at least some kind of a fighting chance against the death and destruction brought about by rains and floods which are occurring more frequently these days, and which would certainly occur more and more in the days to come. What is it that we have not tried yet to fight off the deadly and devastating results of rains and floods?

As far as I am concerned, the one tactic that Filipinos have not truly ventured into yet is that given by Jesus, our God and Savior who is God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, even if this would seem to be the only possible way for our people to triumph over the death and destruction wrought by rains and floods.

I hope Filipinos will not be mad at me for having said this, but the truth is that many of them really do not even know that, in reality, there is a plain way which Jesus offered to counter the ill effects of death and destruction when rains, floods, and strong rains come.

BE WISE IN THE FACE OF RAINS AND FLOODS, TO AVOID DEATH AND DESTRUCTION: What is this way that Jesus taught believers so they could prevail over the effects of death and destruction from the foregoing natural disasters which, according to Him, are sure to come on earth? Jesus said, in Matthew 7:24-27 of the Bible, that these rains and floods can no longer be prevented from coming. They are sure to come, whether we, humans, like it or not.

But, Jesus emphasized in these verses, that there are only two kinds of people who will face the consequences of the aforesaid calamities. The first kind are the people who are wise, or those who listen to, and obey, His commands. The second are those who are fools, or those who listen (or claim to listen) to the commands of Jesus but do not obey them in any way. The fools, Jesus warned, will die or somehow be greatly prejudiced.

As we face a life where destructive and deadly rains and floods would be occurring almost one after the other, in succession, we should all strive to pay attention to what Jesus said. Prayers or “chain petitions” in social media or anywhere else will not be automatically granted by Him. Jesus would only favorably grant our prayers if we pursue a life of adherence and obedience to His commands.

FOR QUESTIONS, REACTIONS: If anyone would like to ask me any question about what the burning issues of the  day mean, or what we have discussed here, or to consult on any problem, whatever it maybe, please call 0917 984 24 68, or email me at, or post your concerns at  Promise, I will answer right away. Thank God in the Name of Jesus, Amen!
