KAKAMPI MO ANG BATAS

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and He relents from sending calamity. Who knows? He may turn and relent and leave behind a blessing---grain offerings and drink offerings for the Lord your God…” (Joel 2:13-14, the Holy Bible)

ANNUAL EVIL TALK VS. THE MARCOSES AND THE AQUINOS IS USELESS: The unending throwing of flak against the declaration of martial law by former President Marcos every time September 21 of every year comes around is to me an egregious waste of time. Indeed, it could not be denied that there were politicians and oligarchs who suffered under the martial law of Marcos. It could not be denied on the other hand, however, that many ordinary citizens managed to have their lives better because of that martial law.

Actually, the same thing happened during the time of Corazon Aquino, of her son Noynoy, and during the presidencies of all those who occupied Malacañang after Marcos was ousted in 1986. Many truly suffered during their respective terms, many huge anomalies were  committed under their watch, but ultimately many people derived one benefit or two somehow when they were the leaders of this country.

My message to those who are making a living by yearly criticizing the past leaders of our country is simple: there are more important matters that should occupy our time, all for the sake of bringing about true prosperity and  development of Filipinos and of the nation. These are the things that we should be focusing on. Marcos is long finished, and so are the Aquinos and the leaders after them. We should be talking about our present now!

PROOFS OFFERED BY JESUS THAT HE IS GOD THE FATHER, SON, AND HOLY SPIRIT (X): The fourth joyful mystery of the Roman Catholic’s Rosary talks about the dedication or presentation of the child Jesus in the Temple. He was just eight-days old at that time, but Jesus was

already brought to the Temple, to be dedicated and presented to God (see Luke 2:21-40).

What is the significance of this part of the life of Jesus here on earth? This shows, when taken together with the other events in His life here on earth which we have already discussed some time ago in this column, that Jesus is indeed our God and Savior, and is God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. At the temple, two believers who were already very old were there---Hannah and Simeon. Hannah prophesied that Jesus was to be the Savior of the Israelites (the Bible teaches that there is no other Savior but God the Father).

Simeon, on the other hand, claimed that God told him that he would not die until he has seen the Christ. When Simeon saw Jesus, he said that Jesus is the Christ and because he has seen Him, he, Simeon, could already die. These proclamations by Hannah and Simeon belong to the Biblical proofs that Jesus is God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

CASES THAT CAN BE FILED AGAINST A DEBTOR WHO IS NOT PAYING: Question from Jiji Alvior, coursed through Messenger of Facebook: “Sir, Atty. Batas, I want to ask if I can file a case against someone who owes me a debt. He borrowed quite a large sum from me. I just wish to be advised. Thank you.”

Here is the answer of the LAWYERS IN THE LIGHT (Lawyers Instructed on Godliness, Humility, and Truth): Yes, a person who has lent money to another can sue the borrower in case no payment is being effected. The first case that can be filed is called “sum of money”. Here, the lender can ask for the principal amount that was borrowed, then the interests and other penalties, plus attorneys’ fees. On the other hand, if there is a check that the borrower issued to the lender and it bounced, there are additional cases that can be filed---Batas Pambansa 22, for the check that bounced, and estafa, or pretending that the check was funded when it  as not so funded. Too, if any property was used as a collateral for the debt, that can also be foreclosed upon.
