LIFE’S INSPIRATION: ”… My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One…” (1 John 2:1, the Holy Bible).

FILIPINOS GETTING TO BE SUICIDES? Here’s a very disturbing news from the police beat: nine men committed suicide last Sunday, 25 September 2011.
From police records, the suicides were identified as Harold Glenn Patiag, 24; Eugene Dejos, 39, and Dennis Gildore, 29, all from Quezon City; Renato Danganan, 75, of Manila; Domingo De Castro, 47, of Candelaria, Quezon; a minor who is 17 years old, of Buenavista, Quezon; Richard Clar of Camarines Sur; Seth San Pedro, 23, of Balagtas, Bulacan; and a person identified only as “Mark”, of Sta. Maria, Bulacan.

Reports indicate that these persons took their lives because of grave problems ranging from marital discord to economic dislocation to serious disputes with relatives. It would seem that committing suicide was believed to be the only way by which the victims could escape or end their problems.

SUICIDE IS A FORM OF GOD’S CURSE: If we are to believe our senators, killing one’s self is a growing menace in the Philippines, a problem so serious that our lawmakers are now even poised to conduct a legislative investigation in aid of legislation.

But then, these investigations will amount to nothing once again, if senators will not recognize that suicides are a form of God’s curse, for a people who no longer listen to the Word of God (or, more simply, who no longer read the Bible) and who no longer obey His commands.

Two Biblical verses support this view. The first verse is Deuteronomy 28:15 which says that if we no longer listen to God and if we no longer obey His commands, His curses—53 in all, listed in Deuteronomy 28:15-68 of the Bible—will overtake all of us.

GOING BACK TO GOD IS A SURE REMEDY VS. SUICIDE: Then, the second verse is Deuteronomy 28:28, which lists one of the curses that God will send to us: “The Lord will afflict you with madness, blindness and confusion of mind…”

This verse is supported by Deuteronomy 28:65 which says: “…There the Lord will give you an anxious mind, eyes weary with longing, and a despairing heart. You will live in constant suspense, filled with dread both night and day, never sure of your life…”

With a mind filled with madness and confusion, as well with anxiety, and with constant suspense, filled with fear the whole day through about whether we will live or not, committing suicide would be very easy. So what do we do? Go back to God, read His Bible, meditate on it day and night, and follow every command written therein.
