After many months of waiting for the Pacquiao-Marquez return bout, that started with a big bang because of the awaited “fight for your honor” for Pacquiao, ended up with a whimper. The many months of waiting did not turn out as expected since our Idol Pacquiao seemingly held his punches and combination a the delight of Marquez who showed that age is not a hitch to speed in boxing.

Everybody who saw the fight last Sunday believed that the decision to win went to Marquez, by the looks of Pacquiao himself and his wife Jinky after the fight, the announcement that he won came as a surprise because they were expecting a defeat. Pacquiao has nothing to lose because his contract wih Marquez provided for a rematch should Pacquiao lose. The biggest loser not in terms of money but lost pride are the Filipino people and Pacquiao did not realize it because he is now basking in glory, fame and fortune. But it should not be so, there is an end to everything.

The members of the famous Barangay Hanazono were all invited by Hanazono member Mr. Daniel “Ging” Evangelista, who did a perfect host for the group. Drinks of your choice were flowing like fountain and the prepared tables were laden with delicious food from the tasty “lechon” to finger foods, like calamares, grilled fish, beef “pochero” soup, green and golden sweet mangoes from his orchard, greaseless peanuts from Iligan City. What made the group forget the unconvincing victory of Pacquiao was the preparation of Ging Evangelista that made all contented because of the personalized service of Ging to his visitors who came from all walks of life in  Zambaonga city, big and small players alike.

Medika’s Lope Iringan went home discouraged after the 4th round, Dr. Bonjing Feliciano came with his “pochero”, Councilor Nonong Guingona and his brothers Bebot and Titoy, Eddis Catis did not win but went for a draw because his betting was round by round. Jerome Lao and Lyndon, financier for some international betting, Joseph went home after the 10th round thinking he lost his bet of 50 grands, but instead by twist of fate won 15,000 pesos on a 10 to 3 betting scheme. Drigo Balbon, a boxing referee, fully agreed that Marquez won the fight, brod Charlie Apostol drank to forget the fight. Bureau of Lands’ Francis and wife forgot to meet his arriving father because of the fight, Marina’s Jess Burnos was reminded how much he spent for flowers, Atty. Idol Esguerra came all the way from Basilan with a bunch of live crabs and “pugot”. With all these high roller guests Ging Evangelista was there tirelessly for his guests even hours after the fight when the flamboyant Eddie Buendia arrived after Eddie Catis went home.    Thank you so much Ging, it was a great day, without your perfect hosting we should have gone home with heavy heart because Congressman Paquiao did not do his best.

Scoop: We missed friends at Ging’s residence for the fight like: DZT Editor Roy Ramos, Bob Jaldon, Ben Gonzales, Romy Garcia, Congressman Erbie Fabian who saw the fight live in Las Vegas. Theywere all invited and many more but sorry it is purely by invitation because everything is free, drinks, lunch, fingerfoods .
