LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…Then Jesus declared, `I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty’…” (John 6:35, the Holy Bible).

ARE WE PREPARING FOR CHRISTMAS? It is barely three weeks before Christmas 2011. What preparations are we now doing to celebrate? Are we preparing as believers must prepare? Or there is no desire in us to prepare at all, either because we don’t believe, or because we have no means to celebrate? Whatever, let us not forget that Christmas is a reminder of God’s great love for all of us.

SCANDAL IN QC LANTERNS: In Quezon City, its residents are trying to decipher whether the putting up of Christmas lanterns or other street decors along the city’s main thoroughfares is a joke or what. While lanterns and decors in previous years really lit up the Christmas season, this year’s lanterns seem to be greatly subdued and unappealing.

Reason? The lanterns appear to have been merely “solicited” from a telephone company, whose name is even prominently displayed in each of them. The question from scandalized residents is this: has Quezon City ran out of funds despite its yearly income in billions of pesos that it had to resort to soliciting even its Christmas decors?

HIV/AIDS AMONG HOMOSEXUALS, A CURSE FROM GOD: Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago and all other Filipinos have every reason to be worried about the rising HIV/AIDS cases in the Philippines. The disease is deadly and can kill even people who are not sexually promiscuous but who will be afflicted by mere body-liquid or drug-injection transfers.

According to public health records, HIV/AIDS cases appear to be getting rampant especially among males having sex with other males—in other words, with men having sex with other men. Many will attribute this to an increasing acceptance of men homosexuals in this country, but there is a Biblical verse which says that homosexuality is a curse from God.

“… Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts… the men…  abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error…” says Romans 1: 26-27.

TRAINING OF ELITE ATHLETES ONLY LOOMS: A consensus is fast shaping up in the training of Filipino athletes: the need now is to focus all training only on the really outstanding and exceptional athletes to prepare them for international competitions like upcoming Olympic and Asian games, in a training center especially built for them.

“Prioritization of training” is how President Aquino describes this effort, and the establishment of the training center is being pushed by Philippine Olympics Committee Chairman Jose Cojuangco Jr. The President and Cojuangco met over the weekend in Malacanang, together with Richie Garcia of the Philippine Sports Commission, to address sports issues in the aftermath of the Indonesia games.

To start the putting up of the training center, Cojuangco, accompanied by daughter Mikee, and son-in-law, former Pasig Rep. Dodot Jaworski, met with Felipe Remollo, the president of Clark Development Corporation. The meeting came up with plans for the immediate construction of the center.
