LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… For God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son, so that whoever believes in him will not perish but will have eternal life...” (John 3:6, the Holy Bible).

MORE WILL DIE FROM RAINS, FLOODS: As I was writing this column early Sunday morning, the latest reports from authorities indicated that more or less 450 people were confirmed killed and hundreds more are still missing as a result of the rains, floods and winds that hit Cagayan de Oro City and Iligan City in Mindanao at the height of Typhoon Sendong. Shocking?

Yes, it is shocking, but as I have been repeating here many times now, more people will die and more properties will be destroyed by more rains, more floods and more winds that will come to the Philippines in the days to come, and there is nothing much that anyone can do about it, except to go back to God, listen to Him and obey His commands once more.

Listening to God and obeying Him sincerely are the only means that we can employ to prevent more deaths and destruction from rains, floods and strong winds, as Jesus, our God and Savior, said in Matthew 7:24-27 of the Bible. If we listen and obey, the deadly and destructive rains and floods will stop. If we do not listen to and obey God, all of us, believers or not, will suffer the “great crash” that Jesus promised from rains and floods.

SCANDALOUS VILMA SANTOS PHOTO: Somebody should tell Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos Recto and her husband Sen. Ralph Recto that many people are greatly scandalized by a billboard prominently displayed towards EDSA and standing along Pasig River near the Guadalupe Bridge in Makati City, showing her and son Luis in a “happy family embrace” with actor Edu Manzano, Vilma’s estranged and “annulled” husband and father of Luis.

The billboard is intended to promote the concept of one happy family wearing clothes and apparel produced by a popular T-shirt and underwear company, and it would have been a perfect shot, except that Vilma, Luis and Edu are no longer “one happy family”, separated long ago by irreconciliable marital disputes, with Filipinos from four corners of the country knowing this fact.

The advertising agency which came up with this idea cannot justify it by saying it was a mere advertising photo-gimmick, for it unfairly portrays Vilma as a woman who can go around embracing and caressing the faces of other men even when she is not in front of the cameras, something that is not in keeping with her and Ralph’s status as political leaders.

IMPEACHMENT BY PORK BARREL: Now it is becoming more and more clear: many congressmen were not given the opportunity to even read the articles of impeachment against Chief Justice Renato Corona. The latest disclosure of this sort came from Cavite Rep. Crispin “Boying” Remulla, who said he did not want to sign an impeachment complaint he has not even read. Clearly, this is impeachment by pork barrel, if you know what I mean.

CLARIFICATION ON “COURT HOLIDAY”: Lawyer Sal Panelo has a clarification to make: it was not the Supreme Court that orchestrated the “court holiday” that saw judges and court employees nationwide walking out of their courtrooms in a display of support for Corona. Panelo said he was the one who started the text brigade, which went nationwide in just a few minutes. Panelo is now calling for a lawyers’ march against the impeachment complaint against Corona.

GOVERNMENT OF SURVEYS: Here is an inside information from Malacanang: President Aquino’s legal advisers knew their moves against the Supreme Court and its justices were all illegal, but they proceeded anyway because of surveys showing a heightened popularity rating for the President. This confirms that this government has become a government of surveys!
