LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…`And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven’…” (Lucas 1:76-78, the Holy Bible).

DISASTERS FROM LUZON DAMS WAITING TO HAPPEN: I am asking the Aquino government, while it is now busy with the victims of Typhoon Sendong in Cagayan de Oro City and Iligan City, to also seriously look into the conditions of the towns and cities surrounding major dams in the whole of Luzon, considering reports that these dams are now all filled to the brim and, with just a little rain, could also cause deadly floods. Disasters are also just waiting to happen in these places near the dams, if we don’t act now.

PRAYING & READING THE BIBLE VS. RAINS, FLOODS: Coupled with donations of money and other relief goods for Sendong victims in Northern Mindanao, I am repeating a call I made, in the wake of the disasters which came from Typhoons Pedring and Quiel earlier this year, for all Filipinos to start forming Bible study and prayer groups to study and obey the Word of God and pray earnestly for our country and its people.

These rains and floods have Biblical basis, and the only way to fight them is by knowing, from the Bible, what Jesus, our God and Savior, said in relation to death and destruction from rains, floods and winds, and what God’s prescription is, so our countrymen can avoid becoming victims of these ever-increasing natural calamities.

PRAYER WARRIORS, ANYONE? Matthew 7:24-27, for instance, contained a graphic warning from Jesus that rains, floods and strong winds will surely come and bring death and destruction to a people who no longer listen to Him or, even though they are listening to Him, nevertheless no longer follow or obey Him. Jesus said those who listen and obey His Word will not be destroyed even if the rains, floods and strong winds come.

In our group called “Anak ng Diyos Kadugo Ni Kristo”, we have several “prayer warriors” who are now studying the Bible, praising God through hymns and  songs, and praying in all humility, face on the ground, for God’s blessings, guidance and protection. Those who want to join these “prayer warriors”, or those who wish to be included in their prayers, can email me at batasmauricio@yahoo.com or call me at 0917 984 24 68.

MALACANANG FANNING ‘PARTY’ ROW: If I were the President, I would have stopped my subordinates from responding to criticisms about his having partied with members of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) while people were dying as a result of “Sendong”. No amount of explanation can really justify a partying President, and a President who failed to fly to Mindanao right away to respond to the crisis. Silence, in this case, should have been the best defense. As it is, Malacanang’s explanations only fanned the controversy more.

FIRING OF PAGASA OFFICIALS EYED: And if I were the President, I would also fire officials of PAGASA, the weather bureau, and of the disaster agencies of government, who evidently failed to do their jobs. Two days before Sendong came, there were warnings that Ondoy-like rains would be dumped in the Mindanao area, but no one did anything to evacuate residents in areas that, researches in 2009 showed, would surely be affected and victimized. We don’t need inutile officials, Mr. President!

STRICT MONITORING OF DONATIONS URGED: And still, if I am the President, I will make sure that all the donations for Sendong victims being coursed through the government will be fully accounted for, duly receipted, and meticulously spent and used for the victims themselves. We should have enough of donations either being pocketed by unscrupulous officials or not distributed and kept rotting instead at government warehouses, while the victims who survived are left alone to fend for themselves.

FINDING GOD’S MESSAGE IN TRAGEDIES: And, finally, if I am President, I will endeavor to determine what God is trying to tell me in the face of all these calamities, natural and man-made, that have marred my presidency, since the time I assumed office. It is certain that all of these disasters are happening, not by accident, but by divine design, and are intended to give a message for the betterment of this country and its people.
