If not for a poster at the back wall of the small front stage at the Ballroom suite of the Garden Orchid hotel, Congressman and Mrs. Erbie Fabian’s Christmas party for his staff, friends, supporters and relatives, could very well be mistaken for a wedding or debut party. Except for the singing contest and raffles that are usually absent in a wedding and debut, the rest look like it. The party last Thursday evening was a star-studded affair. The popular, the rich and the poor, the haves and have not and even the climbers are there in attendance and all are treated tenderly by Congressman and Mrs. Fabian. It was indeed an affair to remember and treasure, because everybody enjoyed, especially the singing contest, whose first prize of P20,000 was won by the Royal Golf Club Choir whose costume for the contest was worth P43,000 and who hired a choreographer from the United States.

The security group of Congressman Erbie came in at second place for performing a dance and song number complete with a costume of a ghost like, black pants and sweatshirt with white mask and gloves. Off-course their costume is more expensive than the P15,000 prize they won.

I really don’t remember who got the third prize of P10,000, since beer was flowing.  All I remember is that our group, the Barangay Hanazono choir with our lead singer Lope Iringan of Medika got a consolation prize (consuelo de bobo) of P5,000. Back-up singers of Hanazono  choir are: Dr. Bonjing Feliciano, businessmen Ging Evengelista, Jerome and Lyndon, Arch. Ben Gonzales, Engr. Faizal Hassiman, Chairman Charlie Rieth, Jess Burnos, Fernandito Fernandez, George Sychuan and Drigo Balbon, our guitarist.

Also seen enjoying the party was Alan and Jessica Villanueva who came with their children, Engr. Ed Catis and his wife Liza, the Marquez brothers with their respective wife, seated in a round table enjoying stories of golf with Junie Eustaquio who just arrived from the States. In another round table was the guest speaker for the night City District Engineer Merham Acas, who was seated with non-contractors, otherwise if he was seated with contractors, a saying says “a crime is committed”. Still in another table is DZT Editor Roy Ramos and wife Susan. Roy went home with a brand new microwave that he won in a raffle. The grand raffle prize was a refrigerator that was won by a guest at the party. MEDIKA medical equipment supplier gave three spygmamometer as raffle prize that was also won by a guest.

Cong. Fabian, following the tradition he learned from his mentor the late city mayor and congresswoman Maria Clara L. Lobregat, handed out P20 bill to children who were at the party while Dr. Bonjing Feliciano threw five peso coins at the stage during the singing contest. Everybody was happy except those who don’t take beer during parties.  Also those I failed to mention as guest, sorry, Table Talk almost hit the garage because of the power of light beer.
