LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom…” (Psalm 90:12, the Holy Bible).

WHAT WENT WRONG WITH THE REVILLA CHILDREN? The real issue in the YouTube video showing Ramgen Revilla and Janelle Manahan filming their sex act in a bathroom is not who uploaded it in the Internet and allowed the world to see them pumping one another in all their nakedness. The real issue is Ramgen and Janelle themselves—why would a man and a woman even desire to film their copulation?

Viewed from this light, Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. is barking up the wrong tree. Instead of asking the National Bureau of Investigation to look into who was responsible for posting the salacious video in the web, he should be asking the Revilla family to make a self-examination: why have these things happened to the Revilla children? What went wrong?

CORONA MUST FORM HIS OWN MEDIA TEAM: Aside from Supreme Court spokesman Jose Midas Marquez, Chief Justice Renato Corona must, as a matter of necessity and to allow Marquez to focus more on his work with the tribunal, also come up with his own spokesman to head a media group that will engage his accusers in a full-scale media war.

Whether we admit it or not, the upcoming impeachment trial at the Senate against him has become largely a battle for public opinion—not just because the senators who will act as judges will surely be kowtowing to what the public will say, in aid of “re-election”, but more because there is now a fierce media campaign intended to sway public opinion against him which must be matched and neutralized, at all cost.

A Corona media group can see to it that no accusation against him in media is left unanswered, and no black marks or skeletons in the closet among his enemies will be left unexposed. A tooth for a tooth, and an eye for an eye, as the Holy Bible said.

EMANO AND HIS ACCUSERS: SO WHO IS CLEAN? So, okay, Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Vicente “Dongkoy” Emano may be guilty of footdragging in heeding storm warnings and of incompetence in the distribution of relief goods and other donations to survivors of Sendong. But, are not those making noise against him and threatening him with lawsuits now equally guilty of failing to help the people hardest hit by the tragedy?

Where were these so-called “concerned citizens”—lawyers, lawmakers, and religious leaders alike—when Cagayanons were building their shanties near or at dangerous places like river banks and islets prone to flooding? What have they done to help the poor residents of the city improve their lives so they could build better homes in better locations, far from areas that easily submerge and go under water?

Indeed, when one points an accusing finger at another, three or four other fingers point back to the accuser. As the Holy Bible warns us in Matthew 7:3-4: “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?”

PRAYERS AND BIBLE STUDIES VS. TRAGEDIES: Now that there are more warnings that Mindanao and many parts of the country will be experiencing more rains and floods as 2012 moves on, I am repeating my plea to all believers to group together, read and meditate on the Bible regularly, and pray for the country against the tragedy which these calamities will bring.
