Outgoing three termer District 2 Congressman Erico Basilio “Erbie” Fabian, city chairman of the Nacionalista Party and founder of “Fuerza Zamboanga”, a local group of businessmen, professionals, government and private executives and employees, active media practitioners, retired citizens as the core members with a lot of mass following, conducted an initial meeting to form his political slate when he runs for city mayor on 2013. His no-nonsense selection of his partymates was hailed by those who were present as an “underdog powerhouse”.

My friend, former San Roque Kagawad and director of the Regional Game Fowl office, Atty.  James Lao, can be a good material for Fuerza Zamboanga. He is an experienced public servant aside from his qualification. He can also ably represent the Muslims and Chinese of which he has both the lineage. He resides in San Roque and his family and friends are urging him to join the caravan of good government of the Fuerza Zamboanga Alliance.  District 1 is waiting for him and so with the entire Fuerza Zamboanga  team.

Fuerza Zamboanga’s incomplete slate is a deliberate undertaking. It is in fact a show of quality candidates and not a showcase of quantity candidates. However, the unity and eagerness to serve the people of Zamboanga City can be clearly seen in the Fuerza Zamboanga candidates and supporters and it is a force to reckon with. “Few but never outfought”, borrowing the slogan of the defunct Philippine Constabulary.

Congressman Fabian is in the right direction. Fuerza Zamboanga’s 10 point agenda as a platform of government answers the need of the time in Zamboanga City. It is a balanced objective of public service, one that caters to all sectors and stakeholders in the city. One of the 10-point agenda is to alleviate the city’s seemingly overtaxed and over-burdened businessmen of the city by not imposing new and more taxes if Congressman Fabian makes it to City Hall. This agenda is a welcome relief to the city’s taxpayers, because Congressman Fabian believes in, “why kill the goose that lays the golden egg”.

Scoop: Today is October 1, 2012, it is a day of reckoning throughout the country, today is a day where the “boys are separated from the men” and “the grain from the chaff”  because many in the country will today file their commitment to serve their fellow Filipinos and sacrifice themselves a feat only the decided can do. After October 5, 2012, when the books of the Comelec will be closed to potential candidates, it will be another day of reckoning for the weak and the strong, the “bully” and the “underdogs” but always remember, “tomorrow is another day and it’s not promised to no one”.
