The B.R.A. (Bra to Raise Awareness) Campaign Project of Ciudad Medical Zamboanga (CMZ) went into high gear when it supported our City’s Marcha Mujeres parade and program yesterday. Spearheaded by the City’s Gender and Development Focal Point and the Local Council of Women Zamboanga, it commemorates International Women’s Day and the National Women’s Month Celebration this March. CMZ joined to inform the women participants  about the B.R.A. main purpose.

B.R.A. is the initial program of CMZ to raise the awareness of the general public about the rising incidence of breast cancer among women and the need for them to seriously have their breast checked regularly.  CMZ hopes to catch the attention of the people by constructing a monumental art object made of used and unused bras in front of the hospital. It will be unveiled on March 22. Subsequent awareness campaign will include free seminars and lectures in schools, offices, and in different barangays, according to CMZ Medical Director Dr. Filipinas Rojo.

Called installation art, the B.R.A. Art Monument will be installed by international artist Rameer Tawasil together with surgeon/artist Dr. Jaime Lu and other local artists. This is the first bra art project in our city, and probably too, the first in the Philippines and in the world.

Since last month, people are encouraged to donate old and unused bras that will be used as the major components of the big B.R.A. art installation. Artistically designed and pink colored B.R.A drops boxes are scattered around our city to collect these bras.
