ADZU American Corner reaches out at Ipil, Sibugay PDF Print E-mail

Last March13 and 14, ADZU American Corner conducted its 6th Outreach Program at Marian College, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay. Anita Tagadiad, Professional Education Coordinator of School of Education, Co-Chair and Trainor of K-12 of ADZU presented the activity. The seminar was participated by 27 teachers and 20 graduating education students from Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Norte. The grateful participants were delighted to part of this educational activity.

The Zamboanga-based, American Corner, (located inside of Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU) Fr. Jose Bacatan Library) iss a US-government Public Affairs Section community project that maintains the Thomas Jefferson Information Center (TJIC). It provides updated information about the United States to Philippine government officials, academics and journalists thru partnerships with a library.

Lynnie Calingacion is the coordinator of the ADZU American Corner under university librarian Florinda Tabanao. American Corners is also found also in the libraries of Xavier University-Cagayan de Oro City, Notre Dame University-Cotabato City,  Ateneo de Davao University-Davao City, Notre Dame of Jolo College, and Mindanao State University-Marawi City.

Using modern technology, The American Corners provide access to current and reliable information about the United States via book collections, CD-ROMS, DVDs, the Internet, and through local programming to the general public. The multi-media, book and periodical collections are open and accessible to all who are interested. American Corners also provide facilities to host program events and activities (e.g., poetry & short story readings, films, speaker programs, workshops, meetings, exhibits, paper shows, mock elections, cultural events, etc.).
