The second fun run project of multi-awardee non-government organization, I CAN Make A Difference, last Sunday June 1, 2014, was a success. Despite an early morning rain, it didn’t dampen the spirits of the organizers and the participants including kids to wake up early before 5am. The adults ran between a distance of 5 to 10km from Paseo del Mar and around the city proper.

Entitled  “I CAN Bottle Run 2.0” with the theme, “Battle Destroys, Bottle Builds,” it is aimed to build  an “environmental friendly” study kiosk inside Edwin Andrew Airbase.  This will be the first of such structure in our city as the kiosk walls will be made up of plastic bottles filled with sands and cements. The run also brought a subtle message that our city is recovering from the 2013 unfortunate siege, and now there are more fun events here.

Coordinated by the  Zamboanga Runners Club, it was the first color run in Zamboanga City. The event started first with a Zumba Dance by Andrew Cordero to warm up the runners. As they dashed off from the starting line and passed certain areas, they were showered with colorful powders adding excitement and glee. Some runners even brought along their pet dogs. It ended with a refreshing shower of water from the Bureau of Fire to the delights of the colored runners.

Nehemiah 4:6. “So we built the wall. And all the wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.”
