14 years. This is how long Tzu Chi Zamboanga has waited for Tzu Chi Global Coordinator Stephen Huang to visit our city according to Coordinator Dr. Anton Lim, and it was worth it. Huang who gave up his business in USA 25 years ago has been traveling around the world to spread Tzu Chi goodness and inspiring people to give more than love.

And this we witnessed when a testimony and thanksgiving dinner was held in his honor last Wednesday, June 2, 2014 at Garden Orchid Hotel. Huang gave a speech that encouraged people to give and share whatever they have – material things and/or talent for others. He represented the essence of Tzu Chi Foundation that has helping people and communities around the world rebuild themselves after a tragedies, calamities, sickness, and even providing livelihood.

The event was attended by local Tzu Chi volunteers, donors, sponsors, and other guests. Before Huang spoke, LCD presentations of the past and present projects of Tzu Chi Zamboanga were shown in a big screen. Tzu Chi Love Center inside of Zamboanga City Medical Center has a complete medical, surgical, and eye medical facilities. It has treated patients not only in our city but also in other parts of Mindanao and even in Visayas. And it has also conducted other projects such as feeding, donations of used clothing to poor people and fire victims, school supplies and bags, etc.

Earlier Huang and his group gave a courtesy visit to Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Salazar and went on ocular inspections of Tzu Chi Center at ZMC, the IDP resettlement areas, and the Tzu Chi temporary dome classrooms the local Tzu Chi group build at Talon-Talon National High School.
