(This is a continuation about a popular local HD (High Definition) professional make-up artist and former PAL interntional flight attendant Jing Perez-Pabellon. She went into teaching after her flying stint, and now an in-demand local make-up artist because of her personal touch and techniques . She brings out the best features of her clients at a price they can afford.)

A journalist and publicist by training and profession, Jing Pabellon holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the Ateneo de Zamboanga University and completed her graduate academic units in Guidance and Counseling from the same university. She has over 20 years experience as a university lecturer and seminar facilitator, and earned her certificate as a professional trainer from the International Institute for Journalism of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Berlin, Germany.

Jing made the big leap from journalism and teaching to professional makeup artistry in 2011, after years of self-study and pursuing her hobby as a private makeup artist for family, friends and schoolmates since her college days.

Jing’s background and experience as a trainer and media practitioner often comes in handy, when she shares her expertise in beauty workshops and when she transforms clients in glamour pictorials. Of herself, she has this to say — “Beauty is my passion. Art is my way of expression. When I look around, I don’t see ugly, plain, handsome or pretty. I see POTENTIAL. Every person is a rough gem, a jewel waiting to be exposed, beautiful in his or her own way. The human face and body is my canvas; imperfections can be hidden so only beauty will be seen.”

It was when she became the unofficial makeup artist of a school production, “Joseph the Dreamer,” that she pursued her own dream. She ended her circuitous journey in journalism and teaching,  and made a final, decisive step to be a full-pledged professional makeup artist.

Jing enrolled at HD Makeup Academy, one of the Philippines’ premier beauty schools. She was able to hone my innate talents and learned professional techniques to turn her passion into a reality there.

Turn a Deaf Ear to Naysayers. It was not easy decision to change careers specially in an industry where competition is stiff. “Few people outside my inner circle of family and close friends will probably understand why I decided to leave journalism and the academe to pursue this dream, “ Jing shared. “Not long ago a former colleague told me how “brave” I was to take the leap and shift gears at this point in my life. Was I being foolish to leave everything behind and journey towards some unknown destination?, “ she asked.

It’s a Face, Not a Coloring Book. Jing said, “Few understand what makeup artistry really is — what it takes — the skills, techniques, hours and dedication required in the perfection of one’s craft. There is a science behind the methods used to enhance the endless variations of features. No two faces are exactly alike. What works for one person might not, for someone else.  There is also artistry in being able to see beauty even when it is raw or hidden beneath the imperfections. Perhaps I need not explain myself. Beauty, after all, is best seen and experienced.”
