I am fortunate to be in my birth place, Iloilo City, when it culminated its 77 Charter Day last August 25. It was one public holiday wherein I saw people from all sectors participated. There were several big activities that preceded it – job fairs, dragon boat festival, kit flying, fun run, mass wedding, fashion show, trade fairs, awarding night,  formal attire Mayor’s Ball, etc.

And I thank Iloilo City Mayor Jed Mabilog for squeezing me in his tight schedules. He accepted the invitation thru me as the PIO (Public Information of ZICANAG (Zamboanga Iloilo Circle from Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, Negros Occidental, Antique and Guimaras) Ilonggo Association to be our special guest in a fund raising dinner event in Zamboanga City. The date will still be determined but it will be before the end of this year.

I hope our city government can extend also an invitation to him thru a city sisterhood agreement. Both LGU’s can share economic and development resources. There was a time that I heard Cebu Pacific was planning a direct flight to/from Iloilo-Zamboanga City. Zamboanga City has many Ilonggo residents whose main roots are from Western Visayas. Likewise, there are many Zamboangueños who are now established and successful over here. There is bridge of prosperity for both cities.

Here is one good business news about Iloilo City. Business think tank Bloomberg cited Iloilo as one of the "cities that could steal your job" from among dozens of areas around the world that are trying to grab a slice of the outsourcing business. This means Iloilo City is one of the top choices for BPO.  It is being hailed as among the leading "sleepy Philippine towns waking up to answer world's phones."

Iloilo, an hour’s flight south of Manila, is at the center of the country’s biggest provincial transformation since independence in 1945 as President Benigno Aquino tries to reverse decades of migration to Manila and abroad. New airports, roads and ports are drawing property developers, retailers and business processing companies that fueled a decade of growth in the capital, like U.S. call-center operator StarTek Inc. and hotel chain Marriott International Inc.
