The dramatic growth and transition of campus journalism in the Philippines has been noted. The Philippines today has tens of thousands of young writers who write for the school newspapers. Thus, the birth of Young Writers’ Club of the Zamboanga Chong Hua High School (ZCHHS) – Elementary Department came into existence in 2007 under the moderatorship of one of the former society columnists of DZT, Ruth Domingo-Mendoza.

Ruth said that the said club serves as a venue for elementary students to demonstrate and eventually enhance their competence in journalism. The aspiring scribblers were exposed to different journalistic writing such as news, editorial, column, feature and sports as well as other phases of staff work.

Last August 30, the Young Writers had their Acquaintance Party and a short orientation at the ZCHHS Audio Visual Room which started at 1 in the afternoon and winded up at 5 pm. Editor-in-Chief for Academic Year 2014-2015, Aiman Andrei U. Kue, gave the opening remarks, while English Elementary Department Head Elisenda S. Tan inspired and encouraged the student-writers to continue their love for writing as they journey in this academe world. Lecture on the Introduction to Journalism and Responsibility of the Editorial Staff was given by the school paper adviser, Ruth Domingo-Mendoza. Also, the Parts of the Campus Paper was thoroughly discussed by Sheena J. Guerrero. The emcee for that gathering was Katherine May S. Quin. The young scribblers were seen enjoying the sumptuous food they have prepared and also the different fun games.

A bible verse to motivate writers. “To make an apt answer is a joy to a man, and a word in season, how good it is! Proverbs 15:23
