Do you have a business idea? Are you willing to invest in a dollar-earning market? Do you want to find out why some young and newly graduates are already millionaires? Then attend the coming IT (Information Technology) event of the Zamboanga ICT (Information Communication Technology), “Startup Workshop 2014,” on September 19 at the Grand Astoria Hotel. This open to the general public activity is in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology - ICT Office.

Business owners not only IT students and professors are encouraged to attend.  It is a learning event that will inspire you with  successful business stories from 4 individuals (one is from a small island in Tawi-Tawi) who are technopreneurs (technology entrepreneurs). Thanks to the IT opportunities they venture into, they made it already in the millionaire rows. And on this day, they will share their “business secret” to Zamboangueños.

Two other speakers will speak about how to make it in this industry with proper planning including where to get financial support. The highlight of the event is the presentation of business ideas by participants (local technopreneurs) who earlier joined the call of the Fishing for Angels. There will be a panel of judges composed of the invited technopreneurs and local businessmen to judge the presentations. If they like the business idea being presented, they are willing to support and invest on it.

Technopreneurs are passionate individuals who have created simple but innovative and unique ideas using technology and have transformed this into successful enterprises in the Philippines and around the world.

For those who are still not aware of the big IT economic potential, this is the industry that opens the floodgate of the BPO (Business Process Outsourcing). It brings economic prosperity thru establishment of call centers, software development, information technology and financial, medical and business services among others. If it grows in the city, it imbibes investors to come in with a domino effect – the building up of an IT Park just like we see happening in Cebu, Iloilo, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro City.   As of now, the Philippines ICT industry has reached already the 1million Filipinos who are currently employed in this market and it stands to earn USD18Billion more this year.
