Vancouver, Canada based Zamboangueña and former Philippines Airlines flight stewardess Evelyn Bangayan-Yadao was in town recently to organized the Progressive Learning Spaces (PLS) for Zamboanga Kids. She contacted her relatives, friends, government agencies, and people who care about the future of children affected by the unfortunate Zamboanga City 2013 siege for help.

PLS is one of the focus programs of Hope for the Nations an international non-government organization based in Canada. Founded in 1994, it is helping children worldwide affected by poverty, conflict, war, and abuses.  Through partnerships with local organizations in 22 countries, it has been building successfully drop-in centers, community-based homes, and schools. It has also organized micro-enterprise programs, emergency aid relief, and critically-needed support services.

Understanding the impact that children have on our global future, Hope for the Nations call the global citizens to care and contribute in building and empowering children to be community of tomorrow. Considered as a “boutique” NGO, it tailor-fits and customizes programs needed by its target communities. This way, it allows them to respond appropriately to the diverse cultural, political and economic environments for the safety and well-being of children .

PLS for Kids, a customized project of Hope for the Nations, was launched to create learning spaces for children affected by war and destruction. It will train and empower educators to mobilize and provide innovative and relevant programs for the children to succeed in school and life. These programs include mentoring and tutoring students through a non-formal syllabus and creative learning techniques.

The project will be supervised by Philippines58 working committees (www.philippines58.com). It aims to raise funds and awareness over a 58 day period in coordination with local partners. Aside from Zamboanga City, Davao and Tacloban were also chosen by the movement.. For details, visit www.hopeforthenations.com.
