The opening salvo of the 2014 Zamboanga Hermosa Festival last Wednesday, October 1, was one of the most exciting, lively, and energetic welcome party hosted by Zamboanga City in years. It ushered the spirit of Zamboangueños rising up with strength and faith towards fun, devotion and unity as espoused by the festival theme, “Levanta Con Fuerza y Fe:Marcha Con Alegria, Devocion, y Unidad.”

Spearheaded by Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco-Salazar, people marched and converged in front of Zamboanga City Hall for a party of celebration. There were song and dance numbers that included a special exhilarating Tango dance performance by real Argentinians who are in town for the 1stZamboanga Tango Festival. The program culminated with a dance-exercise Zumba Dance with all the audience joining in.

The event also commemorated the opening of Pink October that advocates breast cancer awareness and prevention. Women from different sectors of our society joined wearing pink colored t-shirts. This is one of the pet projects of Mayor Salazar since she started in politics – protect women’s rights and welfare.

God is so good that the rain which fell hard in the morning stop momentarily to give way to the celebration with cool air and cloudy sky to shield the participants from the heat of the afternoon sun. It was only late in the evening that rain poured heavily again.

Psalm 145:7 “They will celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness.” (NIV)
