All is set for the week-long celebration of Mindanao Week of Peace (November 27 to December 3). Organized by the Peace Advocates of Zamboanga (PAZ), several activities are lined up to drum up the people to support and participate in achieving peace in our city as well in other parts of Mindanao. It will start tomorrow early morning with a grand parade from Centro Pastoral Complex to Pasonanca Natural Park for the opening program.

One of the staunch supporters of the celebration is the 530th Air Base Wing of the Edwin Andrews Air Base (EAAB) of the Philippine Air Force.  In partnership with PAZ and Interreligious Solidarity for Peace, they held the 2nd Phase of the Wall of Peace (Mural Peace Painting) at the perimeter wall of EAAB last Sunday.

The men and women of the 530th Air Base Wing headed by BGEN Anselmo Junsay led the art peace event. The other institutions who joined were the Youth Solidarity for Peace, WESMINCOM, Ayala NHS, Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial HS, Talon-Talon NHS, ZCHS-Main, Maria Clara L. Lobregat NHS, Sangali NHS and ZABIDA-MYDEV Construction Painting Course. It ended with a fun "boodle fight" lunch at the EAAB Covered Court.

For other details of the celebration, call or contact PAZ Office at Telefax No. 955-2566 or at Mobile No. 09352609437 and look for Ms. Karel Mellanes. (Photo credits to Mindanao Week of Peace Facebook account.)

Do you know that visual arts convey a subtle message and can influence the behaviors and thoughts of its viewers? That is the reason why art paintings are hang in the walls of homes and offices – they are not there only for decorative purpose, but it brings more meaning to its surroundings.

I have learned this from Dr. Lita Ortigas of AIM who was one of my professors in the Master of Organizational Psychology. When we conduct seminars, she recommends to put paintings and colorful curtains in the venue’s walls to make the participants alert and alive.
