I am sure almost everyone who is reading this column today has already ate spaghetti, pasta, lasagna, and pizza! But not everybody has tried freshly and real cooked Italian spaghetti, served with piping hot Italian pizza, drank Italian wines, ate baked Italian pasta and lasagna by real Italian men.

Well, it’s our yummy day today and tomorrow. Zamboangueños will be in for a real Italian treat in an Italan Food Festival dubbed Delizioso at Plaza del Pilar from 5pm onwards.  Organized by the City Tourism City of Zamboanga City, Italian Mario Lizio with his Zamboangueña wife, Elizabeth Ventulero-Lizio, and their children will prepare, cook, and bake authentic Italian food to help raise funds for the Villa Italiana Health Charity Center Inc.at San Roque, Zamboanga City.

The Villa Italiana Center was constructed under the management of these kind hearted and God fearing Lizio couple who used to work as missionary workers at Italy. They decided years back to reside in the Philippines to help Filipinos have better lives through charity works like providing at the center free medical and dental check-ups, teach livelihood programs (learning to cook Italian food), teach people how to speak Italian and appreciate Italian culture so if will be easier for them (these people) to visit, tour, or work in Italy.

Lately, Mario is arranging an Italian Trade Fair in coordination with our city government and Zamboanga City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. This business event will have a sisterhood agreement between Zamboanga City and Monopoli City, Italy. Aside from appreciating each other’s culture, it aims to enhance trade and commerce between the two cities. Lizio added that June 5 is memorable because it is Italy's Independence Day.

For the meantime, folks, drop by Plaza del Pilar and enjoy Italian food while being entertained with Italian music and dance by San Roque Elementary School students.

Buon appétito!
