His name may not sound familiar or popular, but Pep Talk greets one of the silent heroes of our country today a belated natal day to Nico “Cocoy” Torrevillas. Actually, Pep Talk has not met him personally, I only knew of him thru Dr. Anton Lim, one of the founders of the hailed and multi-awarded Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation (YBFH). Dr. Lim greeted him in his Facebook account and this is where Pep Talk got to learn about Cocoy.

Cocoy, according to Dr. Lim, almost singlehandedly spearheaded the Tacloban Funds for Little Kids and Adopt-A-Fisherman Programs for Tacloban-Samar-Ormoc.  These are noble projects of the YBHF to reach out to those who are in need.  Cocoy’s selfless act helped over 600 fishermen got their livelihood back after Typhoon Yolanda is how Dr. Lim described what Cocoy did.

Cocoy’s reason to say ‘Yes’ is admirable, Dr. Lim added. "My family and I were spared for a reason. I am not a victim of Yolanda but a survivor of Yolanda," Cocoy simply explained.  A feat worthy to be emulated by others.

Since it seems that people of the earth have to repay what it did to its natural environment and strong unnatural calamities are happening at unexpected moments, we need more heroes like Cocoy who thinks of the welfare of others.   Most, sad to note, in this millennial generation think of themselves only.

Happy Birthday Cocoy! Because of people like you, saying ‘Thank you’ is never be enough for what you did for the survivors of Yolanda.
