Key barangay leaders of Tumaga supported the national campaign of ICT (Information and Communications Technology) Celebration with a public awareness parade from Tumaga Elementary to the National Computer Center Office in Veterans Avenue, Tumaga last June. The celebration of National ICT Month is mandated under Presidential Proclamation No. 1521 (Series of 2008), declaring every month of June as National ICT Month.

This year’s theme is “A Digitally Empowered Philippine”.  The month-long celebration features events and activities organized by government and the private sector under the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT). Another major event is the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the National Computer Center (NCC), a component agency of the CICT.

A significant activity this June is the launch of the Philippine Digital Strategy on the theme “Transformation 2.0: A Digitally Empowered Nation.”  The Philippine Digital Strategy 2011-2016 aims to contribute to the Aquino Administration’s “Social Contract with the Filipino People”, mainly by leveraging the use of ICT for national development.

The Tumaga ICT participation was spearheaded by active civic leader Tumaga Kagawad Luis Rey Gonzales Tumaga Barangay Captain Carolina Ganganting, and Kagawad Jacky Lim. The women sectors of the barangay, Las Mujeres De Tumaga, were tapped to lead the parade organized by Mondejar.

To commemorate the event, set of volleyballs equipments were donated to the 2 chapters of the Las Mujeres by Kagawad Gonzales. These sports equipments will be used to encourage sportsmanship spirit in the barangay, he said. In the future, he will encourage intensive ICT information drive in the barangay as he foresees this as the way of life in the future.

“Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions and enable him to enjoy them to accept his lot and be happy in his work – this is a gift of God. He seldom reflects on the days of his life, because God keeps him occupied with gladness of heart (Ecclesiastes 5:19-20)
