Thanks to the noble advocacy of the Rotary Club of Zamboanga City (RCZC) there is now an enjoyable way of telling people in Asia’s Latin City that TB is curable and can be eradicated today. Do a fun marathon run, bike and walk event to catch the attention of the public. For three years, RCZC has been doing this fun STOP TB campaign successfully and is aiming event to have a world record for the most number of participants who have joined in this gallant health event.

This year will be an easier one. For the last two years, it has been held an early morning event (6am-wake up5am). It was a struggle for those who like to support this event but are not early riser. They have to drag their feet going to the starting point of the event. But not for 2011, it will be held at 4pm this afternoon with Paseo del Mar as the starting point. It will end up at the Joaquin Enriquez Grandstand.

Thanks to this brilliant suggestion of current RCZC president Rikki Lim who thought of this changed of time schedule. I think he is one of those who loves to wake up late during Sunday, hehehehe.

I am not sure of the statistics but it seems most of us dread this disease and try to avoid people who are afflicted with it. And we even make fun of friends who are thin and coughing as TB-hun.

The Rotary is changing this perception. Medical breakthroughs had already discovered the cure for TB and in a short time people with TB can lead normal lives. The Department of Health (DOH) and our very own Zamboanga City Health are aggressively fighting this communicable disease. They are offering free consultations and free medicines. Unfortunately, most people are still unaware about this.

But with the annual Rotary STOP TB campaign eventually all people will know and TB will be a history of the past. Join the 2011 RCZC STOP TB and be a part of this historical event. The assembly time is 3pm today. Free Registration! By the way, there are big prizes for those who finished ahead of the rest.

Bikers, runners, and walkers support STOP TB!

1 Corinthians 6:19-20. “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.”
