Today is a special holiday as we celebrate Hari Raya 2011. I wish happiness, peace and harmony to everyone. Hari-Raya Puasa is celebrated in our ountry with intense religious observance and festivity. This festival is observed just after the ending of Ramadhan. Thus it ends the fasting in the month of Ramadan, which is of severe importance to every Muslim.

Since I am not a Muslim, I browse the internet to find its meaning and significance. And here’s  the basic information about Ramadhan.  It is the 9th month according to the Islamic calendar, holiest month in the Islamic calendar. Around the world, Ramadhan 2011 is also known as Ramadan 2011, Ramazan 2011, Ramzan 2011, Ramdan 2011, or Ramadaan 2011.

Ramadan 2011 is the Islamic month of fasting, in which Muslims around the world observe Puasa (Fasting) from dawn to sunset, which means that every day during this month, Muslims spend the daylight hours in a complete fast, refraining from eating, drinking, that is in excess or ill-natured. Because of that, Ramadhan 2011 is also referred to as Fasting Month 2011, or Puasa 2011.

In the Philippines - Hari-Raya Puasa  begins with an ablution or ritualistic cleansing by the Muslims. The devotees then participate in the Id-al-Fitr Prayer and also listen in to the khut-bak or the sermon.

Men dressed up in white headpieces during this time and the women in white elaborate and gorgeous dresses wrapping them from head to foot.

During this festival, Muslims gather in the mosque which is constructed facing Mecca. After the prayers are conducted, people throng the streets in order to practice the virtue of forgiveness. They also practice generosity and charity by giving out gifts and sweets Today is Eid al-Fitr, it marks the end of Ramadan. Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity,"  while Fiṭr means "breaking (the fast)". The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the thirty days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan.
