I am glad that District 2 City Councilor VP Elago is active in promoting the tourism potentials of the East Coast. Last September 18, Sunday, he invited members of the Zamboanga De Antes and VPE Action center for a Sunday picnic at Bolong Beach and swimming at the Barnagca River in Buguiao where former Zamboanga City Mayor Vinnie Atilano has a exceptional farm and rest house.

Councilor Elago said this is part of his advocacy to encourage local tourism in our city. He is in the right track. If Malaysia, a Muslim dominated country, is considered as one of the top 10 tourist destinations and raking about $30 billion, our country has a greater potential. Aside from the OFW remittances of $ 18.7 billion last year, we can increase our country’s earning using our country’s natural resources as tourist attractions.

Speaking of tourism, the Zamboanga City Toursim Office is inviting everyone to the Zamboanga Food Festival of Spanish Cuisine at Plaza del Pilar on September 23 and 24. From 5pm onwards, Chef Janice Lazaga will feature the best of Spanish food and drinks. She will be joined by the chefs of Country Chicken, Tropics Fine Cuisine, Alavar Seafood House, Chinito’s, and Jardin de La Viña Hotel.  This is part of the celebration of Tourism Week from Sept. 21 to 30.

Job 37:14-18. “ Listen to this, Job; stop and consider God's wonders. Do you know how God controls the clouds and makes his lightning flash? Do you know how the clouds hang poised, those wonders of him who is perfect in knowledge? You who swelter in your clothes when the land lies hushed under the south wind, can you join him in spreading out the skies, hard as a mirror of cast bronze?” (NIV)
