Celebrating love with trees of life PDF Print E-mail

Sweethearts Jerry Lapiz and mestiza beauty Amor Rodriquez had an extraordinary special pre-nuptial celebration yesterday at Upper Pasonanca. Instead of the tradition bachelor’s party and despedida del soltera, the couple-to-be had a “Tree Parenting” love affair to symbolize the start of their new lives as one.

Tree Parenting is now the preferred term instead of tree planting according to Pasonanca Barangay Captain Jun Julian. He said that it obligates the one who planted the tree to visit the tree once or twice a month and see to it that it will grow into “adulthood” in one year. The planter becomes the parent of the tree, hence, the term parenting. It used to be in tree planting activity, he further explained, people plant the tree, let nature takes it course, and sadly. he noted most of these planted trees wither and die.

But not in his barangay, the firm Kap Julian will only allow tree parenting in his barangay. He will even provide the tree seedling as long as there is a commitment of the tree planters to be a parent of it. And he was happy that for the first time a couple who are about to wed preferred to do a tree parenting in his place (this is also my first time to do a tree parenting as well be a part of a unique pre-nuptial event).

In coordination with the accommodating Kap Julian, Jerry and Amor together with their close friends (some flew from Manila) and churchmates of Zamboanga Victory Christian Fellowship  (VCF) planted narra tress along the bank of the barangay river. We even had our names painted in a piece of wood to claim that it is our personal tree. Kap Julian encouraged us to visit our "tree children" always to monitor its growth.

Jerry is one of the young pastors of VCF. His beautiful wife, Amor, used to be a staff of Senator Edgardo Angarra and had worked also for Zamboanga City Mayor Celso Lobregat.  Let’s wish and pray that their wedding beach ceremony tomorrow at Lantaka Hotel will proceed smoothly with good weather, sumptuous food, full of faith, joy, and above all true love.
