If you happen to fly or go to Davao from December 9 to 11, try to find time and relax by watching films at Gaisano Cinema 5, Gaisano Mall of Davao. The best films about Mindanao will be shown for the 2011 Mindanao Film Festival (MFF), and one entry is by Zamboangueño Dexter dela Peña entitled “Placebo” under Cinesur Film Production.

Placebo is a short feature which revolves around Jim a convenience store owner who months after his father’s death mans the family business all by his lonesome. His boring store routine is interrupted when a vixen comes into the store and befriends him.

The MFF is an initiative to showcase films made by Mindanawon filmmakers zsponsored by the National Culure. The festival aims to popularize the art of independent filmmaking as an essential medium of cultural and artistic expression.  It is open to Mindanawons as well as non-Mindanawons as long as the feature film lenfgth film, short film, movies oer documentary is abut, short or related to Mindanao. It also aims to encourage students to venture into filmmaking and help enrich Mindanao’s emerging filmmaking industry.

There will two categories this year. One is the Exhibition Films and Student Films – these are films shot between October 2010 and September 2011. These films should have not been shown in past Mindcanao Film Festival. The second category is the Guerilla Film Making competition.

There is a call to support Dela Peña’s Placebo by liking it in the http://www.facebook.com/mindanaofilmfest. We should take pride in his talent and craft.

Enhorabuena, Dexter, and God bless!
